Fluid in the ear / symptoms
Fluid in the ear is usually associated with inflammation. The resulting fluid is thin, slimy or even bloody. Mostly viruses or bacteria are the cause. But even water can remain in the ear after bathing, which normally, however, drains off by itself.

Tubenkatarrh

In connection with a tubal catarrh, fluid can form in the ear. The so-called Eustachian tube, also called tube or Eustachian tube, connects the nasopharynx with the middle ear and ensures pressure equalization. The tube is lined with mucous membrane and can in an infection in the nasopharynx or zoom on. This is called tubal catarrh. As with a "normal" catarrh liquid forms here. If the corridor is closed, it develops a so-called Paukenerguss.

If the pharyngeal tonsils are too large, this can obstruct the entrance to the Eustachian tube and also lead to fluid accumulation. This is often the case with small children and feels like cotton wool is in the ear. The hearing is reduced.

In an acute inflammation in the form of a tubal catarrh suffer the person suffering from complaints such as cracking in the ear during swallowing, ear pressure and earache. In order to distinguish a slight tubal cataract from a middle ear infection, it is essential to see a doctor.

Middle ear infection (otitis media)

A middle ear infection usually occurs as a result of an infection of the upper respiratory tract. Thus, the inflammation moves on the Eustachian tube in the middle ear. The mucous membrane there inflames. This forms a secretion, a liquid in the ear. Patients often complain of concomitant massive, pulsating headaches. Babies hold onto the affected ear and cry bitterly. Other symptoms include general malaise, fever and hearing loss. In infants, the symptoms are often quite unspecific, such as diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and restlessness. In the middle ear infection, the eardrum can perforate, the pain subsides abruptly and fluid runs out of the ear. An otitis media is essential in the hands of a doctor, as in the worst case, it may cause mastoiditis (inflammation of the mastoid cells) and then a participation of the brain (such as brain abscess) may occur.

Chronic otitis media (chronic otitis media)

Chronic middle ear infection usually develops from recurrent acute infections. Even a disturbed physiology in the middle ear area may be the reason for this. Those affected complain of deafness and constant ears running. This is a chronic discharge from the ear - a fluid that is constantly forming and looking for the way out. Pain only occurs when an acute middle ear infection grafted on.

Water in the ear

Water in the ear is often associated with swimming or showering. This is not a bad thing and usually goes pretty fast. As long as the fluid is still in the ear, it cracks a bit and the hearing is slightly diminished. Most of the time the water disappears by itself. However, if this is not the case and the fluid remains in the ear for longer than two days, inflammation may occur. If the fluid does not flow even when shaken or hopped and the unpleasant feeling persists, a doctor can remedy the situation. Any inflammation will be treated with appropriate medication. In addition, a heat source, a hot water bottle or a heated grain pillow, which is placed on the affected ear helps.

Naturopathic help with tubal catarrh

If the cause of the fluid in the ear is a tubal catarrh, defense measures are the first priority. This is especially important in children who have not yet matured their immune system. An adapted form of self-blood therapy forms a more commonly used therapeutic approach.
Suitable remedies for homeopathy include cinnabaris - associated with sinus involvement, potassium bichromicum - recurrent catarrhal inflammation, luffa operculata - associated with gangrene. Also helpful in tubal catarrh are the Schüssler salts, such as No. 1 Calcium fluoratum, No. 6 potassium sulfuricum, No. 8 sodium chloratum and No. 11 Silicea. Naturally, naturopathy also uses decongestant ear drops. Here, however, it must be ensured that the eardrum is intact.

In case of a bacterial infection the nasturtium is a helpful plant. This has a defense-enhancing and antibacterial effect. It is available in tablet form or as tincture.

Moist warm pads, possibly with chamomile, support the therapy. You should definitely mention the well-known and very effective onion wrap. An onion chopped small, packed in a cloth handkerchief and then put on the ear, fixed with a headband or a cap - finished the wrap. This can stay there as long as this is tolerated. Although the onion does not smell very pleasant, it has an anti-inflammatory effect and can thus relieve the inflammation and prevent a spreading infection. So that the mucous membrane of the tube does not even ignite nose drops are helpful. Here, drops of sea salt or other naturopathic substances such as loofah can be used.

Naturopathic help with middle ear infection

The middle ear infection necessarily belongs to the doctor. However, in addition to the traditional medical therapy, which usually consists of an antibiotic, naturopathy for healing supportive means ready. Homeopathics such as Aconitum, Belladonna, Pulsatilla, Chamomilla and Ferrum phosphoricum are often prescribed here. To treat a middle ear infection naturheilkundlich are also the most diverse mixed preparations on the market, which may well accompany antibiotic therapy.

In recurring middle ear infections, the cause is often in a disturbed intestinal flora. Here a colon cleansing is necessary so that the body can again meet its defense performance. Most of the human immune system is "stationed" in the gut. Therefore, there is often the cause of recurrent infections.
Naturopathic therapists also use remedies from homeopathy for chronic or frequently recurring middle ear infections. These are, for example, Acidum nitricum, Barium carbonicum, Belladonna, Calcium phosphoricum, China officinalis, Dulcamara, Psorinum and Silicea. To find the appropriate remedy, a detailed history is necessary.

The aforementioned onion wrap is also recommended here, together with the allopathic therapy. However, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) often uses acupuncture for such ear infections. In children, this can be done by so-called seeds, small globules that are placed on acupuncture points.

School medical therapy

In the case of fluid in the ear, caused by a variety of ear infections, conventional medicine treats, if very acute, with antibiotics. This is especially important so that the infection can not spread further. For recurrent inflammation, in conjunction with Schleimineteiligung and hearing loss is often the use of a tympanic tube recommended. Under general anesthetic, make a small incision in the eardrum, aspirate the mucus and insert the small tube. So the ear is properly ventilated again and accumulating liquid can drain. The tympanic tube usually falls out after healing itself and the cut in the eardrum heals without any intervention.

Especially with children who suffer from recurring ear infections, regular medical check-ups are necessary, as often speech disorders can accompany the hearing loss. Often the little ones suffer from polyps. The children get bad breath and they sleep with their mouths open. Every infection becomes a torment. In some cases, an operation can not be avoided.

Naturopathy - polyps

Constant fluid in the ear - swollen mucous membranes - the nose is too - breathing difficult. Polyps are diagnosed. This usually applies to blonde, blue-eyed toddlers. The little ones are suffering. Sometimes they hear badly and the language leaves something to be desired. In natural medicine, an attempt is made to treat the lymphatic predisposition of the children. Lymphatic agents, lymphatic ointments, intestinal cleansing and self-blood therapy with potentiated autologous blood serve well here. Started in good time and ironically and, above all, regularly carried out, in many cases an operation can be prevented. (Sw)
