Diszitis is an isolated inflammation of the disc on the spine (also known as disc inflammation). The clinical picture is extremely rare. Usually the adjacent vertebra is affected, then the whole thing is called spondylodiscitis.

Most of the inflammation is caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, which migrates from another region of the affected organism (endogenous infection). The infection can also occur as part of a disc surgery or open injuries.

complaints

Of course, the symptoms depend on the degree and location of the inflammation. The symptoms can be uncharacteristic and can even reach back pain. With additional infestation of the vertebral body it is called spondylodiscitis. If surrounding tissue is affected, it can also cause sensation irritation, weakness in movement, flank pain, neck tension, sciatic pain and stiffness in the back. As the disease is basically inflammatory, fever and general fatigue may be associated with chills.
