What causes cellulite??

At least 80 percent of women show the typical "orange peel" on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen or upper arms in various forms. Cellulite is not a medical problem, but a natural phenomenon of the female body - which is why men are usually unaffected. This is due to certain anatomical conditions, because women have a significantly thinner skin than men. In addition, the connective tissue is weaker in them, since it must be more elastic, so as not to be damaged by a pregnancy.

In addition, there is a different distribution of fat: While men put on the belly especially on the stomach fat ("beer belly"), collected in women extra pounds mostly on the hips, buttocks and thighs. Due to the loose connective tissue, the frequently enlarged fat cells in women are pushed up faster and finally show up in the form of dents on the skin surface. Even women who have always been very slim are not protected from cellulite if they have weak connective tissue. This is in most cases genetic, which is why a mother with strong orange peel own risk increases significantly.

Avoid risk factors

Although almost every woman is more or less affected, there are several factors that may favor the development of orange peel. These include, for example, a genetic bias, overweight, lack of exercise, low blood pressure, venous diseases, circulatory disorders or hormonal changes. Water retention in the legs also contributes to the appearance of cellulite. Accordingly, for example, with regard to hereditary aspects of one's own well-being, it is helpful to accept the typical "women's problem" in some form. In other areas, however, can be heavily influenced by yourself, in what form the unsightly dents come to light. A combination of exercise, healthy eating, and external uses is usually effective, and various home remedies for cellulite can be used effectively and effectively.

The right diet

To minimize the annoying orange peel, a balanced, healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables is essential. On the other hand, it is important to avoid fast weight loss, as experience has shown that fat accumulates faster after such a "crash diet". Since cellulite also develops as a result of acidification of the body, care should be taken to use as little acid-forming food as possible, such as alcohol, coffee, sweetened drinks (soft drinks, lemonades), animal protein, greasy foods such as chips or chips, and white flour, rice, To eat pasta and sugar. Sugar destabilizes the cell walls in the connective tissue. If you really want to get rid of cellulite, then the sugar intake should be kept as low as possible.

Instead, it is advisable to switch the diet as much as possible to basic foods, which strengthen the structure and function of the connective tissue. Especially valuable are the foods that have a high content of silicon. More about the effect of silicon can be found here. Because this trace element supports on the one hand the consolidation and flexibility of the connective tissue and also has a high water binding capacity. This increases the resilience of the skin and metabolic products are better transported away. Potatoes, corn, millet, carrots, beans, apricots and cherries are particularly suitable.

Generally, a lot of fresh, ripe fruits and vegetables with a high vitamin C content (ascorbic acid) should be eaten. Because this is indispensable for the production of collagen, an essential organic component of the connective tissue and the skin. For example, rosehips, sea-buckthorn berries, peppers, citrus fruits and berries, as well as broccoli, Brussels sprouts and potatoes are considered to be particularly rich in vitamin C.

Helpful drinks

In addition to a healthy diet is also sufficient drinking in the fight against the unsightly dents particularly important. The rule of thumb here is about 2.5 to 3 liters of water or unsweetened tea. So much should be drunk to leach out of the body slag and toxins and make the skin look plumper. Fruit juices or soft drinks such as cola, Fanta etc., however, are not suitable because the cellulite is still favored by the high sugar content.

Due to its high silica content, the horsetail has a great effect on skin and hair problems, and improves cellulite when taken regularly. (Image: Ruckszio / fotolia.com)

A basic cleansing tea can serve well. For this a teaspoon of nettle and field horsetail are brewed with boiling water and left covered for ten minutes. The tea is then strained and drunk three to four times throughout the day. In addition to this, there are numerous other detoxification tees that can also be used for cellulite prevention.

Movement must be

Who wants to fight the dents on his skin, sports is not around. For lack of movement of the body, this leads to a relaxation of the muscles and a poor circulation. Those who train regularly, on the other hand, activate the metabolism and thus enable a faster purification and thus a firmer connective tissue. Ideal is a combination of endurance and strength training, because while, for example, jogging, swimming or cycling to boost fat burning, muscles are built by strength exercises and the connective tissue is tightened. In combination with exercise can also help a detox.

Effective exercises

For example, a good exercise for cellulite is squats to tone the butt and legs. These should be performed slowly with a straight back, with the feet hip-width apart. The arms are stretched forward while the belly and butt remain taut. Another effective butt exercise is carried out in the so-called "quadruped stand". For this, go "on all fours" on the ground, with the upper and lower arms forming a right angle and the head and back a straight line. Now, when you exhale, first stretch your left leg back and lower it slowly as you inhale. The exercise is then performed on the second leg and repeated approximately ten times per side.

In order to combat cellulite on the stomach, so-called "crunches" ("stomach compresses") can be a very effective exercise. These are placed on their backs and their arms are folded behind the head. The legs should be positioned so that the thigh and lower leg form approximately a right angle. The hands are now placed on the temples and the upper body is slowly rolled up with the help of the abdominal muscles, but in contrast to the classic "sit-ups" it is not fully erect. Instead, a few inches are enough while holding the muscle tension.

Afterwards, you return almost to the starting position, whereby the lower back is not put back on the floor in order to maintain the muscle tension. After about 15 repetitions, it will be paused for about a minute. In total, beginners should perform three series of exercise. In the further training course it is advisable to increase the sentences and repetitions further. In general, however, care should always be taken to ensure sufficient rest and relaxation, so as not to overload the body and to keep the fun of training.

Exercise fascia

The ugly lumps on the skin are all the more visible the harder the fasciae (ie tendons, ligaments and connective tissue) are. Fortunately, the fascia can be massaged with a kind of foam roller. This dissolves adhesions and hardening in these body fibers. Furthermore, the blood circulation is improved and the fluid supply of the tissue is increased overall. These processes can store important collagen for the formation of new skin and accelerate the purification of toxins. Every day, the tissue is carefully rolled over the affected area with pressure, for three minutes each for buttocks, thighs and thighs. Before that, some stretching exercises are recommended for the affected muscles. After rolling the fascia, a ten-minute strength training is worthwhile. Squats and lunges - the next day then three sets of pushups (as many repetitions as possible) and ten minutes of fixed jump rope. This tightens the skin and increases the mobility in the lower body enormously, after three weeks of training at the latest one sees the first successes.

A fascial role can not only be helpful in muscle tension, it also loosens the connective tissue and thus reduces the orange peel with regular use. (Image: Printemps / fotolia.com)

Massages against the dents

Supportive, a regular massage can be an effective way. Because with this the blood circulation is improved and the metabolism is stimulated, whereby toxins and slags are released in the body and can be excreted more easily. For the best effect, the application should not be too gentle, but should be performed vigorously to stimulate the lower layers of the skin.

Plucked massage

A simple and effective method is the so-called "plucking massage", in which the skin is gradually clamped between the thumb and forefinger, lifted and released. The points on the legs are worked one after the other until the heat is felt everywhere due to the increased blood circulation.

firming massage

Alternatively, it may be advisable to massage the affected areas circularly, for example with a sisal glove, a massage roller or a loofah sponge to promote blood circulation and tightening the skin. The effect is enhanced when an oil is used, which also facilitates the massage of the skin and provides an adequate supply of fat and moisture.

cupping massage

With a so-called cupping glass, the affected areas of the body can be treated by themselves. The treatment should be done every day, after a few weeks convincing results are already evident. The skin and connective tissue is thus optimally perfused, small dents disappear after repeated use. This is done by circling the skin in small circles. The repeated slight negative pressure leads the blood through all skin layers. The next day there may be small bruises. Cupping not only helps against the orange peel, it also boosts our metabolism positively.

massage oil

A suitable oil can be quickly made by mixing 100 milliliters of neutral carrier oil such as almond, olive or wheat germ oil with 20 to 30 drops of essential oil. In particular, firming and citrus oils that stimulate the metabolism, such as grapefruit, lime or orange, are particularly suitable. As a "specialist" in weak connective tissue in aromatherapy is also the so-called "Virginia Wacholder", especially when used in conjunction with cypress oil.

A good choice may also be the so-called "argan oil", which is obtained from the seeds of the yellow berry fruit of the argan tree and is known to keep the skin smooth and supple. Also essential rosemary oil is often used for the massage, as it stimulates the blood circulation and skin-tightening effect. Generally, however, the oils should not be used neat to avoid skin irritation, but instead always diluted with a neutral base oil.

Then clean the household blender thoroughly, as ivy must not be distorted raw. Mix the crushed ivy with 350 MIllilitre vegetable oil, leave to darken for four weeks in a screw-top glass. For oily skin, sunflower oil, and for dry skin, olive oil. Then strain the oil, for example through a coffee filter or a discarded fine tights. Ivy has a circulation-promoting, skin-tightening and detoxifying effect. As an oil, it can be wonderfully used for massage.

To improve the elasticity of the skin, silica has also proven to be a dietary supplement in the form of tablets or capsules. In addition, many other problems such as brittle nails or brittle hair can be remedied in this way.

Ups and Downs

Likewise, hydrotherapy applications, such as simple Kneipp shower showers, can help improve the structure of the skin. Because the change between warm and cold water has a circulation-promoting effect and makes the skin look firmer and more plump. However, a careful approach is important in order not to strain the circulation unnecessarily and to avoid negative consequences for the health. In case of an infection one should do without it. In addition, the temperature should be neither too cold nor too hot, so as not to burden the weakened connective tissue even more.

Then the whole thing is done with warm water. Overall, the change should be repeated three to five times and finished with a cold cast, so that the vessels can contract at the end again.

In addition, alkaline baths are an effective home remedy for cellulite and have been used for centuries to naturally and gently rid the body of toxins and waste products. Often, soda is used here, as it increases the pH of the bathwater and thereby stimulates the body to deacidify. Accordingly, the basic body care can lead after a short time to the affected areas on thighs and butt look smoother and the skin feels softer overall.
The application is fast and uncomplicated by adding 100 grams of soda powder to a full bath with a maximum of 37 degrees of warm water. Now it should be bathed for at least 40 minutes at a constant temperature, because the process of deacidification begins after about 30 minutes. Although the bath has a very soothing effect, it does take some effort for the body. Therefore, it is recommended to rest after a bit and drink plenty of water or tea. Generally, it is advisable not to bathe more than once a week or twice a week, who suffers from high blood pressure, heart disease or diabetes, should also agree in advance with a doctor.
