Foreign body finding: organic salami is recalled

The Ökoland GmbH has started a recall for various types of salami, because foreign bodies were found in it. According to the producer, the found parts are not classified as hazardous to health.

Blue plastic particles in salami

The Ökoland GmbH from Wunstorf in Lower Saxony calls the two products "lamb salami air-dried 150 g", Lot 23394, shelfmark 07.03.2019 and "Colbassa salami air-dried 150g", Lot 23395, shelfmark 07.03.2019, due to a foreign body finding back. "The foreign bodies are small blue plastic particles," writes the company in a statement that was published on the portal "Lebensmittelwarnung.de" of the federal states and the Federal Office of Consumer Protection.

Not harmful to health

According to the producer, it can not be ruled out that these plastic parts may possibly be contained in other salamis of said batches.

"The particles are well recognizable in color in the salami," it says in the message.

And: "Due to the size of up to about 2 mm, these parts are classified as not harmful to health."

The purchased packs of said sausages can be returned for replacement.

Foreign bodies in food

In food production, due to errors in the manufacturing processes, contaminants or foreign bodies such as aluminum or plastic residues can occur again and again.

These can sometimes lead to injuries and health complaints when consumed.

Depending on the size, condition and material of the swallowed body wounds in the mouth and throat may occur during chewing.

Swallowed plastic parts can - depending on the size - block the esophagus or the digestive organs.

If smaller parts remain in the body, they can sometimes cause inflammation. Also, digestive or stomach problems and internal injuries can not be ruled out.

Above all, it can be dangerous if the objects are glass. (Ad)
