Recall of French cheese launched - Bacteria detection in Roquefort
Because of the detection of verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria, the manufacturer Vernières Frères has started a recall campaign for its blue cheese Roquefort. Concerned is the cheese with the product name "Grand Maitre Roquefort AOP 100g", the best before date 25 June 2016 and the LOS marking 151.032. Already purchased cheese should not be consumed according to the manufacturer, otherwise health problems threaten.
In the "Grand Maitre Roquefort AOP 100g" of the said batch, "verotoxin-producing E. coli (Stx1 gene) was found in an investigation, which are likely to cause health problems when eating the article," says the manufacturer Vernières Frères. According to the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety on its portal "lebensmittelwarnung.de", the product was marketed through different distribution channels nationwide. Already purchased cheese should not be consumed. How a return can be made against reimbursement of the purchase price, is not apparent from the notification of the manufacturer.
