Mineral oil in food
A few weeks ago, the consumer protection organization Foodwatch drew attention to the problem of mineral oil in food packaging. In a laboratory test, they identified residues of potentially hazardous substances in many products - including cornflakes, semolina and rice. The supermarket chain Kaufland reacted now to the results of the consumer advocates. The trading company has taken a certain rice product from the sale. Long grain rice at Kaufland is recalled. Potentially carcinogenic and mutagenic
According to the retail chain, CURTI S.r.l. based in Italy preventively return the article "Curtiriso nature long grain" rice. These are cooking bags 4 x 125g (GTIN8017759644142). The increased levels of mineral oil constituents detected by Foodwatch are described by the European Food Authority EFSA as potentially carcinogenic and mutagenic. In Germany, the product was distributed through the supermarkets of Kaufland.
Serious health risks
"The affected product should not be eaten because of serious health risks. We advise all customers to bring the rice back to their Kaufland store and ask for a refund of the purchase price, "said Luise Molling of Foodwatch in a press release.
