Recall of Bionade because of danger of fermentation
Bionade recalls lemonade because of alcohol fermentation
07/02/2014
Bionade has a recall for certain batches of varieties „Elderberry "and „Streuobst "started in PET bottles The lemonade could contain yeast cells that could accidentally get into the bottles during filling and trigger fermentation processes.
Only certain Bionade varieties recalled
According to the manufacturer, only the 0.5 liter PET bottles with the best before date of 04.06.2015 are in the variety „elder“ and 0.5-liter PET bottles with a shelf life until 03.06.2015 and 04.06.2015 in the flavor „orchard“ affected.
When bottling, yeast cells entered the bottles, which could change the taste and appearance of the lemonade. „These yeasts can trigger fermentation processes that cause elevated levels of carbonation and unwanted levels of alcohol in an alcohol-free soft drink“, informs Bionade on its website. „These processes are initially very slow in the bottles - and could thus not be determined prior to delivery of the goods to retailers and end users, despite close-knit quality controls and utmost care.“ For products where the fermentation process has already begun, the bottles may be bloated and the drink appears cloudy. Taste and smell are different than usual.
„Consumers may, of course, return in-stock items of the corresponding PET bottles from those batches with the stated best before date in their shops for reimbursement of the purchase price“, informs the manufacturer. „In addition, the Bionade GmbH has set up the free service phone number 0800-0044388, from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 18:00 o'clock like to answer questions from consumers.“ (Ag)
