The Ebola epidemic in West Africa has already cost nearly 9,000 lives. The particularly affected Liberia has now reported that there are only five confirmed Ebola cases in the country. The news gives hope for an early end to the epidemic.

Epidemic could soon be over
In Liberia, they are confident that the Ebola epidemic could soon be over. According to news agency AFP, Health Secretary Tolbert Nyensuwah said there were only five confirmed cases across the country. According to the study, in addition to three patients in the capital, Monrovia, there are two more cases in the country that is particularly affected by the disease, in the northwest of the country. Nyensuwah meant, „if everything goes right“, then the number of cases will soon be „go back to zero“. The World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet confirmed the new figures from Liberia. The statistics of the organization often deviate from the figures from the countries concerned.

There is also good news from other countries in the region
Ebola is a dangerous infectious disease that is highly contagious when patients have Ebola symptoms such as fever, pain, vomiting or diarrhea. The virus is transmitted by body fluids. According to the WHO, nearly 9,000 people have died of the disease so far, most of them in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Almost 22,000 people became infected. Recently, however, the number of new infections in the three main countries has fallen significantly. Therefore, a few days ago, the schools in Guinea were reopened. Fearing the spread of the disease, schools and universities in the West African country had been closed for about seven months. And good news also came from another country in the region: The Ebola epidemic in Mali has come to an end, the country's health minister recently announced. (Ad)
