Naturopathy as a quick helper in diseases

04/11/2012

In less acute infections, gastrointestinal problems or minor accidents, the home medicine cabinet is the first helper in distress. But most of them contain only conventional medicines and no natural remedies, although they are very helpful. "Effective herbal medicines such as mustard oils from nasturtium and horseradish for common ailments such as colds or bladder infections should not be missed here," Dr. Dr. Erwin Häringer, general practitioner and naturopathy from Munich. Because in the mentioned ailments there is no time to lose to mitigate the course of the disease.

Most people in Germany have their own medicine chest. Only a few check this regularly on the content. So that nothing is missing in the case of illness or that no already expired preparations are contained, the stocks should be checked at least once or twice a year. Drugs that have expired or have been on the market for over six months should be replaced.

The medicine cabinet is mainly used for acute injuries caused by household accidents or for minor illnesses, for which a consultation with a doctor or alternative practitioner is not absolutely necessary. This is the case, for example, with colds, short gastrointestinal complaints or mild coughing.

In addition to bandages, it is also advisable to have remedies for alleviating pain, itching, abdominal pain or fever always at hand. "Again, because of the better tolerability of herbal preparations should be preferred," says Häringer. A combination of myrrh, coffee charcoal and chamomile can be used in numerous gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea, infections and abdominal cramps. (Sb)
