Naturopathy fruits can help with potency weakness
A high-fruit diet may lower the likelihood of having low potency in later years. At least the results of a prospective study suggest this. Fruits against potency problems. Image: © M.studio - fotolia
The British scientists wanted to investigate whether flavonoids help against erectile dysfunction (ED). To do so, they evaluated data from the mid-1980s started Health Professionals follow-up study, in which more than 50,000 physicians had participated. The data of about 25,000 participants between the ages of 40 and 75 years were relevant for the evaluation.
In the year 2000 men were questioned for the first time retroactively to the erectile function, but also to the nutrition in the past years (before 1986 - 2000). The researchers investigated the uptake of the total flavonoids and the subgroups flavanones, anthocyanins, flavan-3-ols, flavonoid polymers, flavonols and flavones.
Overall, 35.6% of participants in the ten-year follow-up developed an ED. Among the men who consumed the highest levels of flavanones, flavones and anthocyanins, the incidence of ED was reduced by 9% - 11%. Trained men who consumed a lot of anthocyanins and flavanones even had a 21% reduced ED risk compared to men with low flavonoid consumption and less exercise.
Fruits with the highest levels of anthocyanins, flavones and flavones, such as citrus fruits, blueberries and strawberries had the highest effect. Young obese or obese men benefited most. The study can be found here. (Pm)
