Action against pharmaceutical giant for cervical cancer vaccine

25/11/2013

An 18-year-old woman filed a lawsuit against the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Pasteur for negligent assault and misleading advertising. Three more young women will also go to court, said Camille Kouchner on Sunday night. The claim relates to the vaccine „Gardasil“, used for cervical cancer.

The young woman suffering from multiple sclerosis, had blamed the group because of serious side effects. In the past, the vaccine has been linked to some deaths and thousands of negative reactions. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recommends a vaccination against cervical cancer to young women, although the drug has long since been discussed in Germany because of possible side effects. In the Federal Republic is „Gardasil“ approved in the market since September 2006. Patients in France have in the past increasingly demanded compensation due to treatment accidents caused by this drug. In March 2012, a parliamentary commission had already initiated further investigations.

According to a report by the regional newspaper "Sud Ouest", in the case of 18-year-olds, a report by the Regional Compensation Commission of the Aquitaine region of southwestern France, found a link between the girl's inoculations and her illness. Three other women between the ages of 20 and 25, who are also seeking legal action, are suffering from hidradenitis - a chronic skin disease - and the muscle disease polymyositis that has appeared as a result of the vaccines.

The lawyers of the three young women said that more lawsuits will be filed against the pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur MSD. There are more and more young women reporting serious side effects. The pharmaceutical company had denied on Sunday, however, that there is an actual link between the vaccinations and the disease of the 18-year-olds in multiple sclerosis. If there is a connection, another drug scandal could take off at a tremendous scale. (Fr)
