Walnut instead of apricot: Recall for drinking yoghurt started
A dairy in southern Germany made a serious mistake while labeling drinking yoghurt. In some bottles with the print "apricot" there is the variety "walnut honey". For allergy sufferers the consumption could have health consequences. A recall for affected products has started.

Walnut instead of apricot and vice versa
The large dairy Gropper from the Bavarian town of Bissingen (Dillingen on the Danube) has made a grave mistake in pasting labels. As the company stated in a press release, "due to a brief error during production" of "Eridanous drinking yoghurt mild Greek style" the stickers were swapped. That's why some "apricot" bottles now contain the variety "walnut honey" and vice versa. Therefore, the dairy now calls products with the following information on best before date and lot number: MHD 29.08.2015 OB, MHD 29.08.2015 OC, MHD 29.08.2015 OD, MHD 29.08.2015 PA and MHD 29.08.2015 PB.

Allergic reactions possible
As the news agency dpa reports, the confusion is ultimately not a problem because of the different tastes of the customers, but because of people who are allergic to the ingredients walnut or soy lecithin. These allergy sufferers should not consume the exchanged products due to possible reactions. According to the information, the bottles are harmless to shoppers without walnut or soy allergy - they only taste different than expected.

Goods can also be returned without a receipt
The wrongly labeled bottles were sold exclusively in stores of the food discounter Lidl in the states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony. Meanwhile, they are no longer in the assortment. Consumers who still have such yoghurts in the fridge can return them to all Lidl stores. The company reported that the purchase price will of course be refunded, even without presentation of the receipt. Other dairy products are not affected by the recall.

Wrong labels are rare
Due to disruptions in the production process, there are always recalls for food. Wrong labeling is rarely the cause, mostly impurities with foreign bodies or bacteria are the reason. But also the company Heinz had to call back a batch of his garlic sauce a few weeks ago because of false back labels. In people with milk or egg intolerance, consumption could possibly have caused health problems such as diarrhea, abdominal pain or nausea and vomiting. (Ad)
