Dr. Wolfgang Hevert Prize 2016 for ADHD therapy
Dr. med. Klaus von Ammon, Head of Clinical Research Homeopathy at the Institute for Complementary Medicine IKOM at the University of Bern, received the Ph.D. Wolfgang Hevert Prize 2016 for the study design for the use of classical homeopathic therapy in children with AD (H) S. Agrimony was already in ancient times a widely used medicinal plant. (Image: tunedin / fotolia.com)
Marcus and Mathias Hevert, managing directors of Hevert-Arzneimittel, presented the award endowed with 10,000 Euros as part of the naturopathy symposium "Spitzen-Prävention und Naturheilkunde" in Nussbaum. A prizewinning panel of renowned experts had previously taken over the evaluation of the numerous entries submitted.
Background of the study
Attention deficit disorders with and without hyperactivity (AD (H) S) are among the most common neuropsychiatric diagnoses in children and adolescents (5-25%). Stimulants (e.g., methylphenidate (Ritalin®, MPH)) are the most widely used drugs in a multimodal conventional therapy. Classical Homeopathy has reported similar successful treatments and controlled trials with no side effects. Neurophysiological (EEG), functional (fMRI) and metabolic studies (urine protein body) on the mode of action of this therapy method are so far lacking.
The study design is intended to answer the primary question of whether classical homeopathic therapy in children with AD (H) S can bring about a similar clear clinical improvement as it does in children undergoing MPH therapy. The functional and metabolic studies will answer further questions.
method
Neurological and neuropsychological examinations are used for the diagnosis and clinical course, neuro-physiological brainwave measurements (EEG), functional magnetic resonance tomography (functional magnetic resonance under resting conditions, fMRI) and urine-peptide-concentration measurements for metabolic investigations established highest scientific standards use.
