For fair skin already in the morning sunburn danger

For fair-skinned people is already in the morning sunburn danger
20/08/2012
Fair-skinned people are at increased risk of sunburn. In midsummer temperatures, affected people can already sunbathe in the morning at 9 o'clock or in the afternoon at 5 o'clock in direct sunlight. The reason: their skin type is more sensitive than the darker ones.
Low levels of UV radiation are enough to cause sunburn
The skin type of fair-skinned people is so sensitive that even low levels of UV radiation are sufficient to burn the upper layers of the skin. "Anyone who has a Celtic skin type with light hair and eyes and never gets really tan should always be careful," Dr. Gertraud Kremer from the professional association of German dermatologists in Berlin opposite the intelligence service "dpa". From about 18 clock "the risk is not so," says the dermatologist. The lower the sun is on the horizon, the less dangerous are the rays of the sun.
Sun sensitivity depends on skin habituation
The sensitivity to the sun also depends on whether the skin is already sufficiently used to UV radiation. "Anyone who works a lot in the garden and is therefore pre-tanned, the outdoor visit to the pool at 9 o'clock is relatively harmless," explains the dermatologist. But if you spend all day in your own home or office, it could be dangerous for your health. "If somebody else just sits in the office and wants to use a nice summer day then things go wrong". In principle, Mediterranean skin types are better protected from the effects of the sun than fair-skinned people. Mediterranean skin has people with darker hair and eyes.
Online tool reveals solar time
On the Internet, there are numerous self-test tests to find out what the personal sun protection time is. To determine the individual time, according to the physician, the offer of "UV Check.de" can be used. There, interested parties enter the place, the time of day and their own skin type. After that, the online tool calculates how long the requestor can stay outdoors for approximately unprotected. But beware: "That can sometimes only be minutes or even seconds," warns the doctor. As such, the portal is reputable and is operated in cooperation by the Professional Association of German Dermatologists, the German Aerospace Center and a pharmaceutical manufacturer.
Avoid sun at lunchtime
Between 12.00 and 15.00 o'clock, the sun's position is highest, "and thus also the UV radiation exposure," warns Kremer. At this time, not only bright skin types should avoid the direct sun, but all, emphasizes the expert. At all times of the day, adults and children should protect themselves with sunscreen and sunscreen. Good sunwear is airy, made of silk or functional textiles. If you have no or only a few hairs on your head, you should also wear an appropriate headgear. (Sb)
