What do you need for an onion bag??
Most things that are needed for an onion bag, everyone has at home:
- One to two fresh onions
- 1 cloth or a few sheets of tear-resistant kitchen paper
- 1 cap or a headband
- In adults optionally garlic and / or chamomile as a supplement
Instructions for the manufacture of a parcel bag
First, the onions are chopped or cut into small cubes. These should then be heated to body temperature and wrapped in the kitchen towel or kitchen paper. Now squeeze the wrap lightly so that the onion juice is released. Then the onion bag must be placed on the aching ear and fixed there with the help of a cap or a headband. There, the onion sacks should linger for 20 to 30 minutes. This process can be repeated several times a day. Alternatively, the onion can be squeezed out, the juice dripped onto a cotton pad and placed on the aching ear.
For sleeping children, the onion bag can also be gently pushed under the ear. The effect intensifies when the bag is heated a little above hot water vapor before. Leave it under it for about half an hour, checking again and again that the child is not turning and the little package is lying correctly and not slipping. If the children lie on the onions, the vapors can be better activated by the resulting heat. This can be repeated several times a day. Another option is to fry the pieces of onion until glassy and pack them in the bag while still warm.
The onions in the bag can also be replaced by potatoes. For this, the potatoes must be cooked soft and crushed. Then proceed exactly as with the onion bag. Wrap the soft mass in a linen cloth, allow to cool slightly and place the warm cloth with the potatoes on the affected ear for about half an hour.
An alternative to onion sacks - the onion sock
For children who do not like the biting onion odor, there is a similarly effective method: onion socks. The chopped onions are heated. For example, an inverted pot lid on a water bath is suitable for this purpose. Now spread the warm onion pieces on two cloths and wrap them in them. The two wraps are now placed on the soles of the lying children and fixed with comfortable socks. The effect can be enhanced with a heat bottle on the feet. After about 30 minutes, the wraps are removed again, but they can also remain longer in the sock, for example, overnight, if the child falls asleep during the treatment.Onion socks are the lesser known but similarly effective alternative to onion sacks.
