Hanging chest responsible for mental suffering
The social sense of beauty conveys to women and men a physical ideal that often does not agree with their own body-reality. Especially the female breast is given a high importance. The breast of a woman should be taut, tall and firm according to the general ideal of beauty. Since these ideal values either increase or decrease the self-esteem through the influence of a formative environment, a "beautiful bosom" is often decisive for the emotional well-being.
Hanging breasts are a massive psychological burden for many women. However, special exercises and care can help to improve the firmness of the skin. An entire medical industry has formed and breast surgery is now almost a routine intervention. In the rarest cases, however, an operation is necessary from a medical point of view. Numerous non-surgical treatments can help to promote firmness and thus reduce the phenomenon of "hanging chest".
Anatomy of the female breast
A woman's breast is held by muscles. Responsible for this are the large and the small pectoralis muscle, which begin at the shoulders and the upper arms. The breast extends from the second to the seventh rib. It itself consists of connective tissue, fatty and glandular tissue (mammary gland).
The breast tissue is held to the sheath of the great pectoral muscle by ligaments. For this reason, the state of the breast depends mainly on the nature of the muscle. If the muscle is pronounced, the breasts are usually taut. Biologically, the breast is used to breastfeed babies. The mammary glands donate breast milk after giving birth.
Hanging breasts by breastfeeding?
Many mothers fear that the breast will relax after weaning. For many women, the fear of a sagging breast is crucial for giving their child the bottle and not the breast. However, a study by the US University of Kentucky refuted this very widespread prejudice that persists among non-medical practitioners and doctors persistently. Instead of the breastfeeding process rather the age, the BMI and the cigarette consumption of the mother are the cause of later hanging breasts, write the US researchers.
For the study, nearly 100 American women were examined between 1998 and 2006. All women were pregnant at least once in their lives and a good half of the study participants breastfed on average nine months (including weaning). The average age of the participants was 39 years of age. Factors included in the calculation were breast size before and after pregnancy, BMI, cigarette consumption and the use of various medicines.
Many women fear that breastfeeding could give them hanging breasts. However, a US study shows that this worry is unfounded. (Image: pololia / fotolia.com)Although it was found after completing the study that the number of pregnancies, a sagging of the breasts is promoted, but this effect is not caused by breastfeeding itself. In addition to the number of pregnancies, the biggest cause was the smoking behavior of the woman. "Smoking breaks down a protein in the skin called elastin, which gives youthful skin its elastic appearance and supports the breast [...] therefore, it would make sense that smoking would have a detrimental effect on the breasts," said the study director. Brian Rinker from the University of Kentucky.
The less protein was present, the greater the change in breast elasticity. Accordingly, breastfeeding is unjustified in connection with drooping breasts. Pregnancy itself, however, is associated with an increased risk of hanging breasts, the US scientists report. Finally, hanging breasts after pregnancy therefore remain a widespread phenomenon.
Hanging chest: what to do?
Basically, the skin and chest relaxes over the course of a lifetime. Only supportive measures to tighten the skin and connective tissue can slow down the irrevocable process. To strengthen the elasticity, there are different exercises to choose from.
In addition, attention should be paid to a balanced and healthy diet. The intake of toxins in the form of smoking should be stopped or at least reduced as already described in the section "Hanging Breast through Breastfeeding". According to numerous scientific studies, the pollutants contained in tobacco smoke inhibit the production of the structural protein "elastin". Among other things, this is responsible for the elasticity of the skin and connective tissue. Thus, the inhibition of the protein makes not only noticeable on the chest, but the skin on the whole body. The aging process of the skin is accelerating.
Smoking can favor hanging breasts. Because the components of cigarette smoke promote the breakdown of proteins that provide the elasticity of the skin. (Image: BillionPhotos.com/fotolia.com)Exercises against hanging chest
The most effective breast tightening exercises are pushups and breast presses. The chest press trains the lower chest muscle. The push-ups exercise the upper and lower chest muscles as well as the muscles on the upper arms and shoulders.
Instructions: breast presses for a firm bosom
Important: Be sure to keep your breathing normal during the workout. Otherwise, the muscles are not supplied with sufficient oxygen, which is counterproductive for the exercise. Throughout the exercise, the body position should be straight, butt and abdomen should be slightly tense and feet slightly flexed. |
Another effective exercise is pushups. Here, the upper chest muscle and the triceps are trained. The exercise is based on hands and feet. Shoulder, hips, feet and knees form a straight line if possible.
Important: Do not make a hollow cross, but keep a straight back. If the butt raises, the exercise is applied incorrectly. In the described posture, the upper body is slowly lowered until the upper arm and forearm form a 90 degree angle.
In this position, a few seconds remain in order to slowly recover to the starting position. Inhale the upper body and lower it slowly when lifting. At the beginning, most untrained people do only a few repetitions. Through repeated practice but can be achieved after a short time 15 repetitions and more.
It is important that in principle it does not depend on the speed, but on the correctly performed push-ups. Repeat the exercises every two days to give the body time to regenerate.

In addition to the typical sports exercises, natural remedies can also be used to avoid drooping breasts. The skin of the chest and décolletage needs special care. Many commercially available creams therefore rely on the power of medicinal plants.
In particular algae extracts, fatty substances of the olive and the avocado as well as extracts of the green tea can protect the skin against the harmful effects of UV sun rays. In addition, the substances are said to have effects against free radicals. Free radicals accelerate the aging process and are responsible for damage to the body and skin cells.
It is advisable to supplement vitamin A. Especially older skin needs additional vitamins, as the metabolism slows down with the aging of the skin. Regular vitamin intake speeds up cell division and helps the skin to renew itself. The positive and desired side effect: The wrinkling of the skin is slowed down.
However, since the body can hardly break down vitamin A (carotenes), excess vitamin A is stored in the liver. Therefore, it is advisable to use only moderate and in consultation with a trained alternative practitioner or doctor appropriate preparations. Better than additional "pills" is the natural intake in the form of suitable foods. Carotenes are included in carrots, mangoes, kale, sweet potatoes and spinach, among others.
Vitamin A is especially important for beautiful, smooth skin. Because it promotes the regeneration of cells and skin elasticity. (Image: photka / fotolia.com)Schüssler salts against hanging bushes
Another proven natural remedy for hanging breasts are Schüssler salts. These are biochemical functional agents that optimize mineral balance by eliminating deficiencies and disorders.
In question here is especially the salt no. 1 (Calcium fluoratum). The so-called "connective tissue salt" has a positive effect on the elasticity and firmness of tissues and is therefore also valued as a home remedy for cellulite. The salt is available for both internal (e.g., in the form of tablets) and external (e.g., lotions) applications.
If the elasticity of the skin is diminished, it is recommended to use salt no. 11 (Silicea). This is known as "the salt of connective tissue, the skin, hair and nails" and is also recommended in conventional medicine under the name "silica". Silicea supports the medical science of Dr. Ing. Schüßler after building and strengthening the connective tissue and ensures a healthy and firm skin. Accordingly, it can be used very effectively against hanging breasts and generally as a home remedy for wrinkles.
Peeling helps cell renewal
So that external applications to avoid drooping breasts are also successful, it is advisable to exfoliate the skin from time to time. An exfoliation stimulates the cell renewal and thereby the skin experiences more resilience. Although the skin itself about every 30 days for a renewal, but from middle age, something can be helped. Instead of using chemical products from retailers, either natural cosmetics items should be used or simply self-prepared.
For example, oatmeal and grape seed oil can be mixed. The oil nourishes the skin and the oatmeal gently exfoliates the breast skin. The mass should be lightly massaged in and rinsed after a good 15 minutes with lukewarm water. (sb, nr, last updated on 12.1.2017)
