definition
Itchiness on the nipples is - especially in society - poor by simple scratching to breastfeed, as it would do in many other parts of the body. Many affected women describe the itching with the "feeling insane". Mostly the clothing is used for rubbing to relieve the annoying itching for a while.
If it itches in the area of the nipples, that can be very unpleasant. To achieve relief, sufferers often use the clothes for rubbing. Sometimes there are other symptoms that can provide information about the cause. These include, for example, itchy rash, leakage of fluid, and changes in nipple shape.
Itching on the nipples due to hormone changes
There can be various causes for the itchy nipples, which need not necessarily be of pathological origin. The mammary gland is a skin gland that develops into the female breast under the influence of female sex hormones during puberty. The brown-pigmented area of the nipple and nipple forecourt contains a variety of sensitive nerve fibers, making it very sensitive to touch, cold and heat.
Due to the close functional relationship to the hormonal system and the sensitive skin, nipple itching occurs more often, especially in phases of hormonal changes, such as during pregnancy and lactation, before menstruation or during puberty. In many young girls the itching is a sign of growing breasts.
Skin problems as a cause
Often there is a predominantly dermatological problem, i. that only the skin, but not the mammary gland itself is affected. This is especially to be assumed if the complaints on both breasts exist equally.
Irritation can occur if the wearing of coarse, irritating materials or underwear made of natural or synthetic fibers is not tolerated. The same applies to unsupported cosmetics, detergents or softeners. If there are atopic dermatitis or other allergies, they will probably show up in the overdevelopment of wheals and eczema.
Scratching and rubbing of the nipples almost always leads to inflammation, as well as a fungal infection may be present.
An old (peasant) wisdom also states that the itching of the nipples predicts snowfall. In fact, many women report itching when the weather changes, possibly because it reinforces an existing tendency to dry skin. Then the itching is often accompanied by dry eczema and scaly skin.
If the nipple itching is caused by mastitis, the symptoms almost always occur on only one side. (Image: pathdoc / fotolia.com)Causes in the area of the mammary gland
If the mammary gland and tissue are affected, the complaints are often one-sided. Other indications may be leakage of fluid from the nipple, palpable lumps or visible change in the nipple shape.
If the itching is accompanied or followed by the escape of milky, brown, aqueous or bloody liquid from the wart, then a specialist medical examination should take place.
Possible causes include hormonal imbalances, mastitis, benign tumors (cysts, fibroadenoma) or breast cancer (breast cancer), which can be itching, eczema, redness and flushing sensation (inflammatory carcinoma) and / or typically inside the nipple being pulled (Paget Cancer).
Treatment in Naturopathy
If serious or even malignant diseases and additional chest pain are excluded by gynecologist and dermatologist, various home remedies and measures from natural medicine can be used to relieve the itching. For more profound changes in the organism, a naturopathic doctor should be consulted.
If an allergy is the reason for the itchy nipples, the dermatologist can prove this by the so-called prick test. (Image: Andre / fotolia.com)Incompatibilities and allergies can either be found out by trial and error, e.g. by changing the detergent. In the medical or naturopathic practice, tests (prick test, EAV, kinesiology, blood test) can be consulted for investigation. If dry, flaky skin is at the origin, high quality oils, e.g. Evening primrose oil help.
Soothing pads and wraps
In the case of weeping eczema, wheals and other ("heated") inflammatory processes, women often experience temporary relief by applying cold damp washcloths. More sustainable, pure aloe vera gel, which not only cools, but also has anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects.
A good help can be pads and quark wrap against inflammation and swelling. Attention: The quark must not be too cold for the application, so please take some time before the refrigerator and let it warm up a bit.
Quark edition against itchy nipples
Tip: If you do not want to give the quark directly on the nipple, you can alternatively use it in the form of a packet. For this, add the quark also about 0.5 cm thick to a larger compress, gauze or similar. and hit them from the sides, so that a packet is created. |
Healing earth and tea tree oil against itchy nipples
After the high-acute phase, the application of healing clay has also proven itself, as the fine grains of sand absorb the itching stimulants. In the case of fungal infection, the healing earth pack can be mixed with pure tea tree oil. Likewise, bathing with alkaline minerals can reduce the itching.
With a paste of healing earth and water, the inflammatory substances can be absorbed and the itching can be alleviated. (Image: Heike Rau / fotolia.com)Treat nipple itching from the inside
Internally, metabolically stimulating and stimulating plant drugs should be used or a general detoxification treatment should be carried out with homeopathic or spagyric remedies.
Guidance methods such as self-blood therapy are often effective for skin problems. To change mental aspects that may support the symptoms, a Bach flower therapy can support the healing process. (Non-medical practitioner Jeanette Viñals Stein, nr, last updated on 15.6.2017)
