Schüssler salts

Schüssler salts / Naturopathy
Schüssler salts are mineral salts in homeopathic potentiation. They are mainly used in naturopathic practices. Although no scientific results exist on their effects, the Schüssler salts are successfully prescribed by many therapists.

The founder of the Schüssler salt therapy is the physician Wilhelm Heinrich Schüssler (1821 - 1898). He found that disease occurs when the cells lack the different mineral salts. If these are substituted, then it can come to a cure.

Start of the Schüssler salt therapy

Millennia ago, mineral-based remedies were used to treat illnesses - just think of the spas. These served the recovery, by means of mineral content of water.

Dr. Schüssler initially worked as a homeopathic doctor. The research of Jacob Moleschott and Justus von Liebig regarding the mineral balance of animals and plants and the findings of the cellular researcher Rudolf Virchow made him very curious. Therefore, Schüssler began to explore the effects of minerals in the human organism. He published an article about his research in 1873, which led many homeopathic practitioners to attack him for failing to adhere to the principles of homeopathy when choosing remedies. However, his success proved him right. He did not let himself be diverted from his path and was soon able to prove many healing successes with the Schüssler salts.

Meaning of the Schüssler salts

Minerals, such as those contained in base mixtures or nutritional supplements, have nothing to do with the Schüssler minerals. These are subject to another production method, namely that of potentiation. As a result, they can act as cell function agents. In addition, the Schüssler salts each contain a basic and an acidic element. So the body does not have to assemble this from individual components, but gets it ready delivered. An example of this is calcium phosphoricum, where calcium is the base and phosphorus the acid. In this way, the salts can act very fast. The Schüssler salts do not first have to be broken down by the digestive tract, but act in the intercellular fluid, on the cell membrane or in the cell. The mineral salts also help the body to absorb minerals from the food better. The whole thing can be compared with the preparation of a dish. The minerals from the food represent the ingredients, the Schüssler salts are the top chefs who make a valuable and healthy diet.

Potentiation of the Schüssler salts

The Schüssler salts are similarly potentiated, as in homeopathy. Instead of the alcoholic solution, milk sugar is used in the mineral salts. In the potentiationis worked with decimal steps, so D-potencies. TheAccordingly, funds are for example marked D6 or D12. Most Schüssler salts are administered in D6. Exceptions are the Schüssler salts No. 1 Calcium fluoratum, No. 3 Ferrum phosphoricum and No. 11 Silicea, which are taken in D12, which is based on experience.

Example of a potentiation:
Nine parts of milk sugar are mixed with a portion of mineral and shaken ten times or triturated. This is then the first exponentiation step and means D1. One part is taken from the D1 mixture and mixed again with nine parts of lactose and shaken. This process is continued until the desired exponentiation, for example D12, is reached. So this corresponds to a dilution of one to one trillion.

Difference to homeopathy

Both W.H. Schuessler, as well as Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, wanted to help people with their therapy in a natural way. However, homeopathy and Schüssler salts are based on different principles. At the biochemistry of Dr. Ing. Schuessler substitutes the minerals that the body lacks. In homeopathy, funds are selected according to the similarity principle. This means that the drug most similar to the symptoms is given.

The Schüssler salts are only given minerals, which occur in the body. On the other hand, homeopathy often uses agents that are not present in the organism. There are just as many differences in the intake amount. Schuessler salts are administered in much larger quantities.

The Schuessler salt therapy treats with the principle to supply the missing to the body, whereby the homeopathy corresponds rather to the rules of a stimulus therapy. Controversial discussions arise again and again from the perspective. Meanwhile, even therapists work simultaneously with both forms of therapy - and with success.

How it comes to a mineral needs

In this day and age, life is increasingly linked to anxiety, stress and pressure. This leads to increased muscle tension which causes increased acid production. To excrete these, minerals are needed.

Being at the mercy of everyday stress and anxiety prevents the body from extracting the important minerals from food. This means that the need for minerals increases additionally. Of course, it is not enough to administer a few Schüssler salts. The way of life screams for a change. However, the added minerals can promote healing.

Diet plays a big role when people want to be healthy. Denatured foods, acidic or acid-forming foods, too much animal protein and too much sweets - all contribute to hyperacidity, which can seriously damage your health in the long run.

Chewing is just as important in the diet. The digestion begins in the mouth. The food should be well salinated and chewed for a long time, as the salivary glands release the first digestive juices. By insufficient chewing the chyme contains too much and the problems begin in the stomach. There begins a fermentation process, which is completed in the intestine. These digestive problems in turn give rise to acids that must necessarily be buffered by minerals. Likewise drinking to food affects digestion negatively. Liquid in conjunction with solid food causes the chyme to become liquid and the digestive process more difficult.

Four principles of the Schüssler salt therapy

The first principle is that disease is caused by the absence of certain minerals. The second principle is that by supplying the missing minerals the body regenerates. For the third principle applies that Schüssler salts are supplied only in small quantities, which is guaranteed by the potentiation. The fourth principle states that the mineral salts are administered in such small amounts that they can be absorbed immediately via the mucous membranes.

How the body behaves in terms of mineral deficiency

In the case of a mineral deficiency in the body, it first resorts to its reserves, which are distributed throughout the organism. These are available in so-called working or long-term storage. The memory reacts immediately to acute shortage, with the long-term storage rather serve as a depot. So there is no bottleneck for minor deficiencies. However, if the lack of minerals is greater, the body gets what it needs from blood and cell fluid. As the stage progresses, the depots are attacked, and finally, when empty, the organism begins to demineralize various tissue structures.

The deprivation of minerals can cause various, sometimes severe health impairments. An example is osteoporosis. If the body is massively acidified (hyperacidity) and can no longer excrete this acid, the organism resorts to minerals in the tissue, ie in the bones. More specifically, it takes calcium out of the bone to buffer and excrete the acids.

Overview of the Schüssler salts

Dr. Schüssler has found twelve Schüssler salts. After his death, his therapy was further developed and thus added another fifteen so-called supplementary salts. The individual Schüssler salts have a wide range of uses, which is why each salt is only briefly presented below.

No. 1 Calcium fluoratum
Calcium fluoratum (fluorspar) is needed when elasticity has been lost or when relaxation has occurred. So this salt acts both on sagging ligaments and hardened glands. For example, calluses, cornea and splintering nails show that the body lacks the Schüssler salt # 1 calcium fluoratum.

No. 2 Calcium phophoricum
Calcium phosphoricum, German phosphoric acid lime, is needed together with calcium fluoratum, magnesium and sodium chloratum for bone formation. This Schuessler salt helps with discomfort that calls for warmth, especially if this takes place in limbs and joints. The number 2 is also used to form the white and red blood cells.

No. 3 Ferrum phosphoricum
The Schüssler salt No. 3 (also phosphoric iron) is the so-called inflammatory salt of the first stage. This means that Ferrum phosphoricum is used in all inflammations of the body in the initial stages - be it a cold, an intestinal infection or an injury. In mild fever up to 38.5 degrees Celsius, the No. 3 is the drug of choice. In case of injuries, it is often used in acute cases, similar to arnica from homeopathy.

No. 4 Potassium chloratum
Potassium chlorate, or potassium chloride, is the second-stage inflammatory salt. This is how a cold with a little sore throat and a rough throat starts, which requires the use of Schuessler salt # 3. If swelling and mucous secretions are added, add # 4 potassium chloratum.
Potassium chloride is the salt of the mucous membranes. In all diseases in which the mucous membranes are affected, this Schüssler salt is used. This can be the case with both bronchitis and cystitis.

No. 5 Potassium phosphoricum
Kalium phosphoricum (also potassium phosphate) is a very special Schüssler salt. Dr. Schüssler always used to say "potassium instead of Valium". This means that # 5 is a nerve salt, which is used in both the central nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. Kalium phosphoricum helps with anxiety, timidity and chronic fatigue. This salt is used in any condition associated with fatigue.

No. 6 Potassium sulfuricum
Kalium sulfuricum, to German potassium sulfate, represents the inflammatory salt of the third stage. If an inflammation is well advanced, for example, with yellowish greenish secretions or has already entered a chronification, the Schüssler salt No. 6 is the drug of choice. Also, the No. 6 is used in diseases that do not go as they would actually be characteristic. If, for example, the typical pustules do not appear in the case of measles, Schuessler salt number 6 will be given.

No. 7 Magnesium Phosphoricum
Magnesium phosphoricum, also called magnesium phosphate, is known as hot sieves. Dr. Schüssler has found in the context of Magnesium Phosphoricum that this salt works best when combined with boiled hot water. Magnesium phosphoricum is able to bind and excrete volatile ammonia gases. If this salt is missing in the body, it can lead to flatulence. The salt taken up in hot water, when cooled in the intestine, can bind the ammonia gases in the intestine and cause them to excrete. That's how the "hot seven" came about. This Schüssler salt works especially for all cramps and pain, such as menstrual cramps, abdominal pain, intestinal cramps, headaches and much more.

No. 8 sodium chloratum
The Schüssler salt No. 8 sodium chloride has a strong influence on the fluid balance of the body. Natrium chloratum helps with too much as well as with too little of liquid. So this salt is used for example in swelling, but also in too little thirst. The No. 8 is able to bind poisons and perform them. It is often used in insect bites to expel the insect's organic toxins from the body.

No. 9 Sodium phosphoricum
The Schüssler salt No.9 Phosphoric acid sodium is an important lymphatic agent, which is especially helpful in children. When too much uric acid is missing mostly sodium phosphoricum. Likewise, this salt is used to bind accumulated acids in the body. Rheumatic symptoms can be felt when sodium phophoricum is absent in the nerve fibers.

No. 10 Sodium sulfuricum
Sodium sulfuricum, also known as sodium sulphate, is the consequent salt of No. 9. The acids bound with the help of sodium phosphoricum are brought to the outside with the intake of No. 10. So, No. 9 binds the acids and No. 10 excretes them. Also, this Schüssler salt must not be missing in a treatment of a flu infection and is used especially in chills. Sodium sulfuricum is a good dehydrating agent.

No. 11 Silicea
Schüssler salt No. 11, better known as silicic acid, is found in all cells, tissues and organs. Silicea strengthens the connective tissue and is therefore recommended for stretch marks, varicose veins and spider veins. The Schüssler salt No. 11 works with pus accumulations, in order to excrete these or to dismantle from the body. Even bruises are broken down with the help of this salt.

No. 12 Calcium sulfuricum
The sulfuric acid calcium has a cleansing effect on all mucous membranes. Dr. Schüssler did not always count Calcium sulphuricum among the Schuessler salts as he saw # 9 sodium phosphoricum together with # 11 silicea as a complete replacement for the salt # 12. The Schüssler salt no. 12 is used in suppurations, if an expiry is already created. Thus, it is the follower of No. 11. This salt is used for acid secretion and is also given in inflammation with thick secretions.

The Twelve Schüssler salves
The twelve Schüssler salts can also be applied externally in the form of ointments, creams and gels. Ointments are made on the basis of fat without water and therefore recommended for dry skin. Creams contain fat and water, which is especially beneficial on hairy body parts. Gel or gels do not contain fat. They are therefore often used on oily skin. Add to that the cooling effect of the gel. Thus, the Schüssler salt therapy can work both internally and externally. Both forms of treatment can be used simultaneously. The range of application of the ointments is similar to those of the Schüssler salts. For example, if there is a bruise, the Schüssler Salt No. 3 can be used internally and externally. The therapy combines several ointments / creams / gels.

The supplementary salts
These are combinations that Dr. Schuessler could not explore and therefore did not know. Improved analytical methods in the 20th century have found these mineral compounds in the body. The supplemental salts are present in much lower dose in the body than the 12 basic salts. In the Schüssler salt therapy, the supplemental salts are often used when the success of the therapy leaves nothing to be desired. The supplemental salts require a detailed history and a close look at the individual salts. These fifteen additional salts are used in lower doses than the twelve Schuessler salts. Frequently, the use of supplementary salts increases the effect of the basic salts.

Schüssler salts in natural healing practice

In many naturopathic practices, the Schüssler salts have now taken a permanent place. The Schüssler salt therapy is a virtually side effect-free therapy to bring the body back into a healthy balance. The Schüssler salts can be used together with other naturopathic therapies, such as homeopathy, Bach flower therapy, energy treatments and phytotherapy. This depends on the experience of the therapist. It is also possible to administer Schüssler salts together with conventional medical treatment. Schüssler salts, like many naturopathic therapies, can lead to an initial aggravation, but usually runs quite harmless. People who suffer from lactose intolerance and can not tolerate milk sugar can sometimes develop digestive problems. However, it will not be necessary to renounce the Schüssler salt therapy. The twelve Schüssler salts now also exist in lactose-free drop form.

taking

The longer the Schüssler salts have contact with the oral mucosa, the better they can work. Accordingly, the tablets are sucked or you can simply melt them in the mouth. The other option is to dissolve in a little warm water. You may only stir with a wooden or plastic spoon. Before swallowing, the liquid will still hold something in the mouth, so that it can be absorbed by the mucous membrane. The only exception is No. 7 Magnesium Phosphoricum. This Schüssler salt should always be dissolved in water - in hot, once boiled water. Diabetics should generally do without the milk-based Schüssler salts. These patients use the lactose-free drops. Schüssler often prefers salts as globules rather than the original tablets. Schüssler salts are not dependent and can be taken for years without harming the body. The combination of different salts, however, should be left to the experienced therapist. Animals and plants also benefit from the power of mineral salts. Especially in dogs, these are used successfully in naturopathic practices. (Sw)
