polyphenols

Polyphenols are a group of phytochemicals that are used in the body primarily as radical scavengers. Some polyphenols are even stronger radical scavengers than vitamins C, E and beta-carotene. It has been found that the polyphenols contained in red wine have a forty percent greater range of action than, for example, vitamin E. In addition, they have a heart-protecting effect, which is explained by the fact that they reduce the platelet aggregation and prevent fat oxidation. Polyphenols are immune modulating, anti-cancer (anticancer) and anti-inflammatory. They are mainly found in and directly under the fruit peel.

OPC
OPC is the abbreviation for oligomeric proanthocyanidins. OPCs are found in the pits and kernels of fruit, such as apples, cherries, blueberries and, above all, in grapes. OPC are radical scavengers, support our cardiovascular system and have an invigorating effect on the immune system. They prevent the accumulation of too much LDL cholesterol in the blood vessels and thus have an anti-arteriosclerotic effect. For example, OPC is extremely important for diabetics because the high blood sugar levels cause significant damage to the blood vessels over the long term. Moreover, the OPCs are easily awarded hypotensive property.

resveratrol
Resveratrol is one of the most important phenols in the red wine extract besides OPC. Resveratrol is found mainly in red wine and is a component of the grapevine, with which it protects itself against harmful fungi and other attackers. This plant substance is also very healthy for us humans. Like all polyphenols, it belongs to the radical scavengers, counteracts aging, ensures elasticity of the vessels and counteracts cell aging.

Resveratrol is found mainly in the shells of grapes, is both fat and water-soluble and therefore has an even greater range of action as antioxidant than other radical scavengers. It inhibits the development of cancer cells, especially those involved in breast cancer. It also protects against other cancers, such as colon cancer or prostate cancer. Resveratrol also has a preventive effect, especially with regard to diseases of the cardiovascular system. It prevents clumping of platelets, protects against arteriosclerosis and lowers the cholesterol levels of "bad" cholesterol LDL.

Effect of red wine extract

The health-promoting effect of red wine extract has its ingredients, the polyphenols. In the first place here is the effect as radical scavengers. The polyphenols are able to trap reactive oxygen and nitrogen molecules and thereby prevent damage to the cell metabolism. The active ingredients of the red wine extract can prevent the clumping of platelets and thus prevent atherosclerosis. They exert protection on the vascular system and positively influence the body's defense.

It is also believed that the development of cancer cells with red wine extract can be prevented. It is possible that red wine extract can protect against the development of breast cancer. It has been demonstrated that a particular enzyme involved in the production of the estrogen can be inhibited by the extract, and estrogen, in turn, is often involved in the development of a breast carcinoma.

Red wine extract is now also used in the cosmetics industry because, for example, the contained OPCs are important for the collagen of the skin. They increase the elasticity of the skin and thus prevent wrinkles. The extract is therefore used in the preparation of various creams and masks.

In order to supply the body with the amount of red wine extract that is contained in a capsule, humans would need to drink about four to five liters of wine a day, which would certainly not be beneficial to health. (Sw)
