Measles symptoms

Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by the measles virus. Especially children are often affected by this disease. Measles are considered dangerous in infants and toddlers. The virus is transmitted via droplet infections. At the beginning, flu-like symptoms such as high fever, cough and runny nose appear. Later, the characteristic rash follows with red spots, the so-called measles rashes.

Measles weaken the immune system. Bronchitis, otitis media or lung and brain inflammation can occur here as possible sequelae. In some cases, life-threatening complications from a measles infection are threatened.

The measles cases have risen sharply in Germany recently. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of illnesses in Germany in 2017 was more than two and a half times that of the previous year. The World Health Organization (WHO) advises a nationwide vaccine and refers to regions such as North and South America, where a high vaccination coverage rates the disease as good as eradicated.
