Viral cause - shingles

The disease arises as a result of already experienced chickenpox infections. When children develop chickenpox, the virus persists in the body even after the acute infectious disease subsides and "hides" in certain nerve cells. There, the pathogen sleeps and can be reactivated at any time. Due to massive stress, immunodeficiency, cancer or other diseases, such as a severe flu, the virus can come back to life. But even a new chickenpox contact can trigger the disease. The same applies to excessive sunlight.

When reactivating the virus, a shingles, called in the jargon herpes zoster (the chickenpox virus, varicella zoster virus, belongs to the herpes virus). However, a condition for shingles is that those affected had chickenpox before. Incubation time and risk of infection of the two diseases differ significantly. Chickenpox is massively contagious and the incubation period is 11 to 21 days. The pathogens in a shingles, however, are not quite as easily transmitted and the incubation period is slightly shorter - one to two weeks.

Symptoms - shingles

The actual symptoms are often preceded by symptoms such as general malaise, weakness, fatigue, fever, chills and tingling and burning of the skin. The affected areas are sensitive to touch. Only then will the typical skin symptoms appear in the affected nerve region. Red spots appear, which then turn into fluid-filled blisters, often accompanied by severe pain. Also, the regional lymph nodes can swell. These skin conditions are typically narrow in a shingles, in groups together. After about a week, the bubbles burst and crust. After another three to four weeks heal the skin symptoms.

Shingles can, in principle, affect any nerve root, most often affecting the trunk. The shingles on the face forms a special form here - the facial rose.

Symptoms - shingles on the face

Since, as already mentioned, shingles affects nerves, a nerve is also affected in the facial rose. This is the largest sensitive facial nerve called the trigeminal nerve. He cares for cheeks, nose, forehead, eyes and also the scalp. Everywhere here the disease can spread. As with other forms of shingles, the facial rose begins to have a general malaise, fatigue, and fever. All of this can occur two to three days before the appearance of the skin: burning pain, redness swelling, and small, clustered nodules in the affected area. In the further course then develop small, liquid-filled bubbles.

disease

The faster the treatment, the faster the facial rash can heal. If a therapy is initiated at the first symptoms, the blisters dry up within a week. Overall, the course depends on the age of the patients. On average, two weeks pass before the patients feel significantly better. However, this can take longer. Especially on the face, the nerve pain can remain weeks to months, which is especially the case in older patients. This is referred to in the jargon as post-zoster neuralgia.

complications

The facial rose can also affect the eye in worse cases - called zoster ophthalmicus. Massive puffiness in the eyes and eyelids, increased lachrymation and photophobia, and lifelong visual impairment are possible consequences. Another complication is the zoster oticus - there are blisters in the outer ear canal - in the worst case, this can lead to a deterioration of hearing to deafness. Involvement of the facial nerve can cause facial paralysis, facial paralysis.

infection

The liquid which is in bubbles is infectious. Children who have no immunity can contract chickenpox by contact. Affected persons should therefore keep away from children, immunocompromised persons and pregnant women. After touching the affected areas of the face, the hands should be washed well or disinfected.

Treatment of shingles on the face

To alleviate the symptoms, depending on the rash and stage, ointments and / or tinctures are prescribed. Painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac only help with mild pain. Often, however, the pain is so pronounced that weak opioids are prescribed with so-called co-analgesics (medicines that are given together with a painkiller). This combination is often chosen for severe nerve pain.

In order to treat the cause, an antiviral therapy is necessary - especially if the disease is very severe. This should be used as soon as possible. Optionally, corticosteroids may be combined with antiviral agents.

Naturopathic therapy for shingles on the faceAutohemotherapy

The self-blood therapy is used when the immune system is affected. In order to cope more easily with the virus in the facial rose, the body is retuned by a self-blood therapy and his self-healing powers are stimulated. The blood that is taken from the vein can be processed with substances that additionally stimulate the immune system. If you want to work more gently, use the potentiated self-blood therapy, in which a drop of blood from the fingertip different vials of shaken blood for oral intake are made.

homeopathy

After a detailed anamnesis, the appropriate individual remedy for the patient is sought. Some examples are: Apis mellifica, Arsenicum album, Cantharis, Causticum, Lachesis and Rhus toxicodendron.

Orthomolecular Medicine (OM)

Orthomolecular medicine prescribes nutritional supplements. For the treatment of facial rose vitamin C, zinc and a high-dose vitamin B complex are mentioned.

Phytotherapy

Phytotherapy keeps some plants ready to relieve and heal the facial rose. The coneflower (Echinacea) stimulates the immune system, sarsaparilla (Smilax aristolochiaefolia), burdock root (Bardanae radix) and bittersweet (Solanum dulcamara) have a detoxifying and detoxifying effect. Encrustations of oak bark (Quercus cortex), pansy (Viola tricolor) and yarrow (Achillea millefolium) are astringent. St. John's wort oil is dabbed carefully on the affected area, brings relief and supports the healing process.

acupuncture

Especially in the acute stage, the pain can be alleviated with the help of acupuncture. Continuous needles are helpful, as they are brought to specific points in the course of ear acupuncture, reduce pain and stimulate defense.

Bacterial cause - erysipelas

Erysipelas, an inflammation of the skin, is triggered by bacteria. Mostly, streptococci are the culprits who invade on minor skin injuries, such as a small lacerated wound or a mosquito bite. Within hours or a few days, flame-shaped redness develops. This condition is associated with general symptoms such as severe malaise, fever, chills, joint or headache, and nausea. Lymphatics can catch fire. If the face is affected, there is talk of facial rose.

Symptoms - Erysipelas in the face

As already mentioned, in the case of the facial rose, triggered by an erysipelas, the skin is massively reddened, swollen and very painful. Blisters can form on the skin. Initially, the face is usually affected on one side, but the symptoms can become symmetrical on the other half of the face after one to two days. The general symptoms mentioned above are also associated with a facial rose.

complications

A facial rose may spread in a butterfly shape, whereby the eyelids swell. In this case, an expansion to the eye socket and adjacent blood vessels is possible. Another complication is the spreading to the middle ear. The inflammation spreads in the worst case in deeper skin layers, which can lead to pus formation and abscesses. A life-threatening complication of the facial rose is meningitis or thrombosis of the cerebral vein. Unrecognized doors and foci can cause a chronic recurrent erysipelas on the face, which means that the facial rose repeatedly breaks out in the same place.

Increased risk

Increased risk of getting facial erysipelas or other forms of erysipelas is associated with immunocompromised individuals, such as AIDS patients, post-transplant patients, diabetes patients, and people with circulatory disorders.

treatment

The drug of choice for the treatment of a facial rose, caused by an erysipelas, are antibiotics. If the disease is very severe, it will be given initially via the vein. Maybe a hospital stay is necessary. It is important that the portal of entry heals completely so that no recurrences can occur. Analgesic and antipyretic drugs are also prescribed.

If you have a facial rose, you should speak as little as possible and eat the food you eat so that the aching chewing movements are kept to a minimum. Cooling the affected area somewhat relieves the pain.

Naturopathic therapy with an erysipelas in the face

Accompanying the orthodox medical treatment a naturopathic therapy is possible and also recommended.

Colostrum

Colostrum contains a small immune factory. This helps to activate the immune system. Especially the intestine benefits from it. Thus, the intake of colostrum capsules or the colostrum fluid in connection with the use of antibiotics, as it is indicated in Gesichtsrose, is absolutely recommended. The intestine is not so stressed - in addition, the colostrum supports the action of the antibiotic.

homeopathy

The following homeopathic remedies are recommended for a facial rose: Belladonna, due to the massive, blazing redness; Apis mellifica against the swelling with stinging pains; Rhus troxicodendron against the possible formation of bubbles. Choosing the right remedy should be done by experienced therapists.

External applications

External applications can alleviate the discomfort of a facial rose. Helpful are pads with healing earth. For this, a porridge made of healing earth and cold water is prepared, put on a clean cloth, this is beaten from both sides and then placed with the thin side on the affected areas.

Furthermore, dabbing with diluted calendula essence (Calendula essence: boiled water - 1:10) helps. Calendula ointment, applied very thinly, can also bring relief.

Schüßler salts

Salts number 3 Ferrum phosphoricum, number 11 Silicea and number 17 Manganum sulfuricum are helpful here.

Colloidal Silver

For a facial rose, taking colloidal silver may be good. When buying it is essential to pay attention to purity and quality. The liquid can be additionally sprayed on the skin.

Phytotherapy

Plants that help especially with bacterial infections are nasturtium and horseradish root. These two are known as "natural antibiotics". They are available in combination preparations, as tincture or in fresh plant juices.

acupuncture

Acupuncture is also recommended for this form of facial rose. It can strengthen the defense and relieve the pain.

General information about facial rose

Regardless of the cause, facial rose is a serious condition and needs rest and a break for the sufferer. It is important to cure the illness completely. A light, vitamin-rich diet is supportive. Patients suffering from a facial rose should always avoid drafts, cold and moisture.
