Effective tips against dry hair

Brittle, dull hair should not be washed too often. Instead, the rarer the better. When buying a shampoo, make sure that it contains neither silicones nor aggressive surfactants. Silicones lay around the hair like a cloak. Although they feel supple and get a nice shine. But with time, more and more washing is required to achieve the desired goal. The "coat" does not allow moisture and important oils to penetrate, making the hair drier. In addition, they are weighted by the silicones.

With a so-called "clarifying shampoo", the hair can be freed from the chemical residues. Switching to a silicone-free shampoo and using the home remedies presented below is a step in the right direction.

Shampoos contain surfactants. These are substances that dissolve the dirt and act as foaming agents. Surfactants are needed, but there are quite a few differences here. Not everyone reacts to these substances, but they can trigger allergies or lead to massive dehydration of the hair.

When washing, the scalp should always be massaged as this will boost fat production. Too hot water and too frequent blow-dry are to be avoided. The use of straighteners and / or curling iron should also be considered carefully. After washing, the hair can be rinsed a little with cold water. This also helps against dry, brittle hair.

It is recommended to brush the hair for at least three minutes in the morning and evening to stimulate blood circulation and sebum production in the scalp. It should be combed not only from top to bottom, but also the other way around, so "against the grain".

Shampoo on a natural basis: hair washing soap

Hair washing soap is a good alternative to shampoo, as it usually contains only natural substances. For dry hair, a goat's milk soap is recommended. Frequently, various oils, such as coconut oil or sesame oil, are added to aid effectiveness, which has a positive effect on the hair structure.

Oil Cures: High effectiveness without chemistry

Oil cures are a proven home remedy to moisturize dry, brittle hair. Important: In all applications, a mild shampoo is first massaged into the hair after the exposure time and then washed out with enough water. In this way, the oil dissolves better. The cures are usually applied once a week. In severe drought, this can also be done more often.

Cure with pure olive oil

Oil cures conjure moisture into the hair in a simple way. A well-known ingredient for this is the olive oil. After washing with a gentle shampoo, the hair is dried without rubbing with a towel and then combed carefully. The warmed olive oil is incorporated from the beginning to the tips with your hands. If the scalp is dry, the oil can be additionally massaged into the scalp. Then the hair is packed in a warm towel. After one to three hours, the treatment is washed out with a little shampoo.

Hair pack with olive oil and egg

Warm olive oil is mixed with an egg yolk and a teaspoon of honey. The whole thing is incorporated into the hair after washing. This mixture should be allowed to act for at least half an hour before it is washed out.

Moisture through coconut oil

For this proven home remedy for straw hair, three tablespoons of coconut oil, an egg yolk and a teaspoon of lemon juice are mixed together. The paste is placed on the washed, towel-dried hair and stays there for at least one hour. If necessary, the scalp can be treated.

Pack of essential oils

A fragrant and effective use on brittle hair is a pack that uses essential oils.

Instructions for a sesame-lavender pack:

  1. Mix one teaspoon each of sesame, olive and paranut oil
  2. In addition, half a teaspoon of honey and two drops of essential geranium oil and lavender oil
  3. Before use, the mixture is slightly warmed up in a water bath
  4. Now put the pack in damp hair from the base to the tips
  5. Then immerse a towel in warm water and wring it out well
  6. Wrap this around the head as a turban, so that the cure can work properly
  7. After about fifteen minutes, the whole thing is washed out with shampoo

Argan oil for dry hair

Argan oil is a very special oil that is extracted from the seeds of the argan tree and is also known as "Gold of Morocco". The oil has a circulation-promoting and moisturizing property, which is why it is often used for dry hair. The oil may be massaged into hair tips and scalp before washing, possibly over night. It is also possible to add a few drops of it to the shampoo or to put it into dry hair after washing.

Mask with egg yolk

For this effective mask, one tablespoon each of olive, castor and wheat germ oil is needed, which is stirred with egg yolk and then added to damp hair. The exposure time is about twenty minutes.

Quick help overnight: oil massage

An old proven method for unruly hair is a massage of the scalp with precious oils. This works best when used in the form of a cure three days in a row, every two weeks.

Instructions for the oil massage:

  • Mix 50 g olive, almond and castor oil with 5 g rosemary oil
  • Carefully massage the mixture into the scalp in the evening
  • Wrap a towel over it so that the bedding does not get dirty
  • Let the oil work overnight
  • The next morning, the hair is thoroughly washed until all oil remains are removed

Jojoba: Moisture for every day

A light oil that is suitable for every day is jojoba oil. Thereby, the danger is very low that this causes greasy hair. Rub a splash of it in the palms and distribute it in the hair. Above all, the tips should be well supplied, since these are usually the hardest hit. The oil provides an extra dose of moisture and, with regular use, can quickly make your hair shiny and beautiful again.

Hair treatment with Baby-Kleiebad

An application with Kleiebadpulver is a somewhat unusual, but very effective recipe. For this a tablespoon of the powder is mixed with a tablespoon of cream. Add a teaspoon of honey, some coconut oil, egg yolks and a splash of lemon juice. This treatment is distributed in the hair, put on a hood or wrapped a warmed towel. After about half an hour, the mixture can be rinsed out.

Mayonnaise is a proven home remedy for dry hair. (Image: Quade / fotolia.com)

Hair wash with mayonnaise

A regular (once a week) mayonnaise shampoo repairs dry tips and hair and then wears a protective film over them.

Recipe:

  • To make the mayonnaise, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil dropwise into an egg yolk
  • Put the mass in the dry hair and massage it carefully
  • Then place a towel over it to warm
  • After 20 to 30 minutes of exposure, the hair is rinsed thoroughly

Dryness also comes from within

Often, the dryness comes from the inside, which means not only the hair is dry, but possibly also the skin and mucous membranes. If this is the case, care should be taken to cover the fluid requirements. Depending on age and physical exertion, these are at least 30 milliliters of still water per kilogram of body weight a day. It is equally important to pay attention to high quality virgin oil (such as olive oil) and to use it regularly in the kitchen. Schuessler salts, which serve well in drought, are the salts number eight, potassium chloratum. (sw, nr, updated on 23.9.2016)
