clove oil

If you do not like myrrh tincture, you can start the experiment with clove oil. It is important to pay attention to purity and quality. With a small drop of undiluted oil, the cold sores are treated several times a day.

Honey with tea tree oil

Honey is mixed with a drop of tea tree oil and then applied to the affected areas. Honey works by its anti-inflammatory and healing component, tea tree oil is antiviral. Together they are a good team, both of which can be tried out individually.

Manuka honey

Manuka honey is a very special "medicinal honey". This is not simply lubricated on bread, but almost administered like medicine. A finished calendula essence (marigold essence) is available in every pharmacy. It is diluted 1:10 with boiled water. Then the lips are carefully dabbed.

Black tea

A freshly brewed tea bag, kept in the fridge for a while, is great for treating cold sores. Black tea soothes the itching and stimulates the healing process.

Toothpaste - yes or no?

The use of toothpaste in connection with cold sores is controversial. Toothpaste sometimes contains substances that irritate the affected lips even more, instead of healing them. If someone wants to try toothpaste, it should contain zinc, as it can have a positive effect on the healing process.

Quark

Quark is known to be anti-inflammatory. In addition, there is its cooling component, which is very pleasant especially with cold sores. Several times a day, if circumstances allow, apply some quark to the affected areas. Dried quark should be removed very carefully with lukewarm water. Then treat with a little honey - that makes the application perfect.

Heilerde

Healing earth is now one of the "all-round home remedies", both for internal, as well as for external treatment. For cold sores, a porridge is mixed with a little healing clay and cold water and then applied to the lip with a cotton swab. As with quark, remove the dried healing clay with lukewarm water and then apply some honey.

Schüssler salts externally

Schüssler salts are not really among the home remedies, but are naturopathic treatment options. However, these are very helpful for cold sores and should not go unmentioned here. The Schüssler salts No. 3 Ferrum phosphoricum D12 and No. 4 potassium chloratum D6 are mixed together with a little water to a pulp and placed on the lips. For this purpose, a saturated brine (water with about 26 percent salt content) is produced: A Himalayan salt chunk is covered with spring water in a screw-top jar. This burns easily, but the brine is really a good and easy help with the annoying bubbles. Over time, the salt chunks dissolve more and more. For the treatment of cold sores best evening primrose oil capsules are taken and in addition, the contents of a capsule is applied to the affected areas. Anyone who suffers from cold sores should not use dishes or cutlery with others. Similarly, if this is difficult, avoid kissing. Foods such as nuts, chocolate, cola, pine nuts, buckwheat, tuna, wheat germ and pumpkin seeds should be avoided as they are high in arginine. This can favor the outbreak of herpes. The counteracts lysine, for example, in Parmesan, shrimp, potatoes, lentils, eggs and brewer's yeast.

To protect yourself from cold sores, avoid sunbathing and protect the lips with a suitable sun blocker. If bubbles have already formed, they must never be pierced. Do not cure the cold sores with the mentioned home remedies and / or occur frequently, a doctor should be consulted. (Sw)
