Possible connections between stress and the occurrence of back problems
06/17/2014
Stress can have a variety of effects on the organism, which also manifest in physical complaints. In a recent study, DAK Health has therefore explicitly addressed the effects of stress in various professional and population groups. The results of the study will be presented to the public today, the news agency reports „dpa“. Among other things, the investigation examined the question of whether people who are fully employed or those without a job feel harder hit by the stress.
The current health report of the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) has also paid special attention to the topic of stress as the cause of the disease and found that Germany as a whole „relatively stressed“ is. Not only the workload, the constant accessibility and the overtime would stress the working people, „but above all the conditions under which they work.“ In particular, temporary, part-time or temporary workers would often suffer from mental stress. This also applies to persons, „who have to fulfill several roles at the same time through family and work.“
Meanwhile, the mental illnesses account for over 17 percent of all absences. Often the mental problems manifest in physical ailments. Here, for example, a connection between the psychological stress and the occurrence of back pain is assumed. The DAK Health study on the effects of stress can unambiguously uncover such relationships and identify possible approaches to prevention. (Fp)
