Related bone metabolism and diabetes
Study: related bone metabolism and diabetes.
(25.07.2010) Recent studies prove again and again what naturopathy has long asserted: Namely that looking only at a region for the research of diseases such as diabetes does not do justice to the complex mechanisms of the human organism. US scientists from Columbia University in New York and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine have now published studies in the journal Cell, in which they establish a link between bone metabolism and diabetes mellitus.
Accordingly, it should come in animal studies in mice that had a link between bone metabolism and insulin resistance, after administration of the bone metabolism hormone osteocalcin to improve the diabetic state of metabolism.
The background is that bone is a metabolic organ - that is, it constantly builds up and degrades and moreover forms important cells for the organism. For three years now, a study has been conducted by Dr. Gerard Karsenty, the head of the department „Genetics and Development“ Columbia University Medical Center, New York, announces that the administration of osteocalcin boosts insulin production in the pancreas. Conversely, according to Dr. Karsenty said that drugs purely for the control of osteoporosis and lack of osteocalcin could be involved in the development of type 2 diabetes.
Whether the results are transferable to humans, must be shown. There will certainly be more and more studies in the future, which will point out the connections and possible causes of diabetes in our metabolism and thus indirectly give justice to naturopathy, which has always advocated observing and establishing relationships in the organism.
But naturopathy is fundamentally critical of the exploration of these relationships with animal experiments. (Tf)
