What about the sense of balance? A little self-test
Still in balance? Simple self-test for seniors
That walking difficulties occur in old age is not uncommon. Sometimes older people get out of balance. This of course increases the risk of injury. But that does not have to be, because the balance can be trained even in advanced age.
Check balance sense with simple exercises
Balance disorders and walking difficulties in old age are widespread. Only recently did the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) publish two brochures explaining, among other things, ways to train balance and gait safety in old age. Now, the German Turner-Bund points out on its website that seniors can check with two simple exercises, how it is ordered to their sense of balance.

For the so-called tandem stand one puts one foot directly in front of the other - toe and heel touch each other. This position is held for ten seconds without assistance and without detention. With the one-legged stand you stand on one foot and lift the other. Then both arms are stretched forward at shoulder height. Again, the position is held for ten seconds without help. Those who do both have a good balance. However, those who succeed in one or none of the exercises should exercise their balance in the future, advises the German Gymnastics Federation. This will also reduce the risk of falling. Some sports clubs have programs specifically designed for the elderly. (Ad)
