The Hofkäserei Büttner from Hohenleuben in Thuringia has started a recall for a raw milk cheese. In the product harmful bacteria (E. coli) were detected. The germs can lead to discomfort such as diarrhea.
VTEC bacteria detected in cheese
The Hofkäserei Büttner from Hohenleuben (Thuringia) calls "raw milk cheese - butter cheese with tomato and Italian herbs" with the lot number 65, Packing unit: 190-200g in foil, with the best before dates 27.11.2018, 06.12.2018, 18.12.2018 and 25.12.2018 back. Verotoxin-producing E. coli bacteria (VTEC) have been detected in the cheese, according to a statement published on the "Lebensmittelwarnung.de" portal of the federal states and the Federal Office of Consumer Protection.
Consumption is not recommended
According to the information, the cheese was sold through branches of the agricultural cooperative Weidagrund e.G. Unterreichenau in the districts Vogtlandkreis (Saxony) and Greiz (Thuringia) distributed.
"Consumers who have purchased this product are advised not to consume it and to dispose of or return the food," the statement says.
If symptoms occur, seek medical advice
The bacteria can cause diarrhea (sometimes bloody diarrhea), abdominal pain and vomiting, with or without fever, within a week of eating contaminated products.
"It is not recommended to consume affected dairy products!"
