Which occupational groups are most frequently ill? / Health News
Length of sick leave is highly dependent on the profession
The increasing burden on the job endangers the health. We get sick from too much stress. In some professions the workload is apparently more intense than in others. This is also shown by the different length of sick leave.

Work has an impact on our health
Many people live in constant stress at work. This has an impact on health. This is also shown in a recent report by the umbrella organization of the company health insurance funds. In the BKK Health Report 2016 "Health and Work" it says in the introduction: "A large part of their lifetime is spent by employees with work. Therefore it is not surprising that the work and especially the associated working conditions significantly influence the health of employees. "

The current health report of the BKK shows that the length of the sick leave also depends on the occupational activity. In some occupational groups, the number of days lost due to accidents at work is higher. (Image: Robert Kneschke / fotolia.com)

Occupational activity influences illnesses
"In addition to the age of an employee especially influenced the professional activity of the disease," writes the BKK in a press release. The report of the health insurance shows clear differences between the occupational groups.

In earlier studies, too, there were some enormous differences between the occupations with the highest sick-leave and those who were less frequently or less ill.

Every employee is ill on average for 16 days
For the current health report, data from 9.3 million insured were analyzed, including 4.4 million workers insured with a BKK. According to the information, the heavy flu epidemic of last year had no effect on the total days lost:

Professionals were therefore due to illness on average about 16 days. This corresponds to a sick leave rate of 4.4 percent in 2015.

Employees in the IT sector are scarcer
Cleaners are the top performers (23 average days off), according to the report, for more than three weeks, followed by transport and logistics professionals (22 days) and security professionals (20.5 days).

Accordingly, at the lower end of the absenteeism scale, there are company-related service occupations - such as in the areas of law and administration as well as media professions, each with around 13 sick days. Employees in the IT sector were on average only sick for 12 days.

Absentee days due to mental disorders
It has also been shown that occupations that are primarily associated with physically demanding activities are expected to be mainly characterized by absenteeism due to musculoskeletal disorders. On the other hand, occupations with a high emotional burden (for example, health professionals) are particularly absent due to mental disorders.

In the case of accidents at work, there is also a clear connection between the occupation performed and the associated working conditions. If civil engineering employees cause an average of 1.5 days per employee due to an occupational accident, those involved in financial services, accounting and tax consulting are only 0.1 days.

Regional differences
"As before, there is a clear east-west divide in absenteeism," states the health report. "This difference remains even after standardization for age and gender differences." So have BKK members in Baden-Württemberg (13.2 days disability per member) on average almost a calendar week fewer days off than the residents of Saxony-Anhalt members (20 , 4 AU days per member).

Invest in the health of employees
Furthermore, it was found that temporary employees were missing around 1.7 days longer in 2015 than employees with a regular employment contract. There were great differences, depending on the occupational group: Loan or temporary workers who work in manufacturing or in transport and logistics occupations, therefore have significantly fewer days off than there permanent employees. Conversely, this picture is with the health professions, the cleaning occupations and the construction professions.

According to the BKK, it pays off for the employer to invest in the health of its employees. A study by the Initiative Health and Labor (iga) showed that companies alone save an average of € 2.70 with every € 1 spent on reduced absenteeism spend the employee health. (Ad)
