Rehabilitation is often rejected by the health insurance
Rehabilitation usually helps a lot, especially for older people. Whether due to illness or after surgery: When patients are limited in their everyday life, they can find their way back into an independent and self-determined life with the help of a rehab. Among other things, this can also be prevented care. Nevertheless, the measure is often rejected by the health insurance. However, seniors should not throw in the towel right away. As the news agency dpa reports, already a call can help further.
Personal demand with the clerk
In principle, seniors can benefit from a rehab even in their old age. The health insurance funds are responsible for a geriatric rehabilitation. However, if the health insurance company refuses to pay the costs, it is often helpful to ask the clerk personally. In some cases, only a few documents are missing, which can be submitted later. The health scientist Matthias Meinck pointed this out in the agency report. In addition, seniors can also object, ideally after consultation with the treating physicians.
Inpatient rehabilitation
Whether a rehab is necessary, is also checked by the assessors of the Medical Service of Health Insurance (MDK) at a nursing assessment. Here, too, older people can contradict and press for a re-examination. The MDK has repeatedly pointed out in the past that the statutory health insurance more often tend to reject benefits such as sickness benefits, rehab measures or hearing aids. The geriatric rehabilitation is usually performed inpatient and takes several weeks. In addition to a drug treatment therapies in the form of physiotherapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy are often used. (Ad)
