The US regulator FDA warns against Zi-Xiu-Tang bee pollen capsules. The capsules are offered as a TCM slimming agent on the Internet. They should contain undeclared, pharmacologically active substances.

On the one hand the appetite suppressant sibutramine was detected in the examined preparations. He has since been withdrawn from the market due to its unfavorable benefit-risk ratio. Furthermore, the triphenylmethane dye phenolphthalein was included, which may have carcinogenic effects. In all the samples examined, one or even both substances were detected. The FDA has received several reports of palpitations, tachycardias, chest pain, suicidal thoughts, and other side effects that occurred after taking the slimming capsules.
