Landlords are required to pay for the removal of wasp nests. Especially if a balcony use is excluded due to the states forming insects.The tenant can demand in this case from the landlord to eliminate the wasps nest. For this a reasonable deadline has to be observed. The costs must be borne by the landlord and can not be passed on to the tenant as operating costs. This notice is given by the owner association Haus & Grund Germany.

Your own actions should be urgently ruled out, as wasps and their relatives are very defensive. In case of acute personal danger from wasps or hornets an exterminator should be informed. The fire department is not primarily responsible for wasp infestation.

In case of significant danger, the landlord can even give an order for nest removal, without first informing the landlord. The costs incurred can be charged to the landlord. „The reimbursement of costs is only valid if there is an acute danger from the wasps“. If this is not the case, the renter can expect to have to bear the costs himself. In Central Europe, only 11 species of so-called true wasps occur. They also like to settle in roller shutters, in the roof ledge, excavations, in hedges and bushes in towns and villages. A colony may comprise several thousand individuals.

Wasps and hornets are protected
The main contact between man and wasp occurs during the nesting phase from April to mid-August. Wasps and their big relatives, the hornets, have been protected for several years and therefore are not allowed to be killed. There are very few exceptions, if a relocation of the animals for technical or practical reasons is not possible or there is an enormous threat to humans. Blowing away, hectic movements and attacks on the wasps should be avoided, since human sweat can trigger a mechanism of attack on the animals communicating via pheromones (fragrances). Almost all wasps are short-cyclical and will disappear again at the end of August. Those who were stung by a wasp should cool the puncture wound the best.
