Lustpille Flibanserin: What "Pink Viagra" really does with women
For about half a year in the US a pill on the market, the women should make more pleasure. Even before the introduction of the drug, which is also called "Pink Viagra", many experts were skeptical about the effect. Now a study confirmed her doubts.

Critics referred to side effects early on
After a history of many years, it was finally announced in the late summer of last year: the so-called Viagra for women receives approval in the USA. Long before the sales launch, the drug caused a stir. At the time, critics pointed to earlier research that indicated that women who took the funds had only a modest upward trend in their "sexually satisfying events." In addition, the common side effects such as dizziness, tiredness, nausea and occasionally insomnia, dry mouth and constipation have been reported. Although the skeptics were dismissed as the usual skeptics, but a new study now confirmed their doubts.

Little satisfactory
According to a new study, the effect of the Addyi women's pleasure pill, which has been available in the USA for about half a year, is low, but the side effects are clear, the news agency dpa reports. According to researchers from the Netherlands and Belgium, taking the pill on average resulted in only one more satisfactory sexual experience within two months. As a side effect of the so-called "Pink Viagra" designated pills, the scientists recorded a significant increase in dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and fatigue. The results of the study were recently published in the journal Jama Internal Medicine.

Desire for sex should be strengthened
To arrive at their findings, the researchers evaluated data from five published and three unpublished studies in which a total of 5,914 women had participated. "The analysis of these data suggests that the change caused by flibanserin is minimal," the authors said. Flibanserin is Addyi's active ingredient, which influences neurotransmitters in the brain and thus enhances women's desire for sex. Although side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and fatigue were common, according to the researchers, but mostly in mild form.

Before a recommendation, further investigations should follow
The scientists demanded that further investigations had to be made before the pill could be recommended to patients. In addition, Addyi, as proposed by some scientists and physicians, should be considered as part of a treatment that includes, for example, psychotherapy. That should also look similar to health experts in this country. Lack of desire for sex is generally widespread. Women in long relationships are more likely to find it, according to experts. Reasons why women no longer feel like having sex are stress, overwork, habit or physical suffering. Experts estimate that the drug is suitable for less than ten percent of patients. The majority of those affected can be helped with talks and advice. In addition, prolonged sleep can increase the desire. This emerges from a US study, which had established a connection between sleep and good sex.

Market launch in Germany unclear
Addyi was approved in the US last August and entered the market in October. Unlike Viagra for men, the "Pink Viagra" does not have an effect on the body but on psychological mechanisms - comparable to, for example, remedies for depression. The drug must be taken daily. In addition, alcohol should be avoided over the entire intake period, as it further exacerbates the side effects. The pill is available on prescription only after consultation with trained physicians and pharmacists available. The cost of the "Viagra for women" are depending on the health insurance between 30 and 75 US dollars (26 to 66 euros) a month. According to the manufacturer, it is still unclear whether and when a sale of the controversial product is also sought in Germany. (Ad)
