Both the filter and the collection container of vacuum cleaners need regular cleaning. For this purpose, the filters of most devices can be removed and washed. However, before reinserting, the vacuum cleaner filters should in any case be completely dried to avoid the formation of mold, stresses TÜV Süd.

Even vacuum cleaners need care so they stay fully functional and do not pose a health risk to users. The filters and the collection containers should be thoroughly cleaned at regular intervals. The collection containers for the dirt in bagless vacuum cleaners can be emptied easily and then cleaned with a damp cloth. The hose and the nozzles can be cleaned in case of doubt with detergent and warm water. However, the parts should dry well before reinstalling. Extract air filters and motor protection filters can be removed and washed both on most bagless devices and on conventional vacuum cleaners, explained TÜV Süd. However, the filters must also be completely dried before reinstalling, so that no mold can form, warn the experts de TÜV's.

Forms mold in the filters of the vacuum cleaner, it is distributed in the worst case when using the device in the indoor air and can cause significant health problems to the user. Those affected may experience symptoms such as headache, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, nausea and vomiting when they are in regular contact with small amounts of mold spores. In the long term, the mold burden can lead to serious impairment of the bronchi, which develop chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma in certain circumstances. In addition, mold is considered as a contributing factor to the occurrence of allergies.
