He promised compensation to affected families. According to the report, the consequences for consumers, including babies under six months, are cause for "great concern".
Bacteria cause gastrointestinal infections
Salmonella are bacteria that can cause severe stomach / bowel disease (salmonellosis).
The disease occurs several hours to days after infection and manifests itself mainly by sudden onset of diarrhea, abdominal pain, malaise, feeling cold and headache.
In some cases, vomiting and mild fever are added.
"The symptoms often last for several days. In infants or older adults, the resulting dehydration may be severe, "writes the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on its website.
"In rare cases, the initial bowel inflammation may take a septic course with a high fever," the experts said. In rare cases, the infection can be fatal.
According to medical experts, it is especially important for sufferers to drink a lot. Infected infants should always be referred to a doctor, especially if the symptoms persist longer.
