Do not take out travel insurance as a package
Vacation: do not buy travel insurance as a package
01/28/2015
When you book your vacation at the travel agency, you will usually be offered all-inclusive insurance packages. Experts advise not to buy these as a complete package, but to take out insurance separately.
Escape stress and relax
Both now during the cold season and in summer, it attracts many tourists beyond German or even European borders. Preparations often start months in advance: buy matching clothes, assemble a first-aid kit, browse travel guides. Of course, the most important thing is to book the trip itself. If flights and hotels are booked at the travel agency, customers are usually offered an all-inclusive insurance package. Since you want to escape the stress and relax on vacation, the likelihood of resorting to such packages is great, so you do not have to worry about baggage loss or the like during the trip. However, insurance experts advise against it.
Separate insurance is cheaper
According to this, holidaymakers in the travel agency should not buy several insurance policies as a complete package for the trip. „I can only advise against it“, said Bianca Boss of the Association of insured, according to a message from the news agency dpa. „This is in no case cheaper than separate insurance.“ In the travel agency, customers are often offered an all-round carefree package consisting of travel insurance for foreign travel, cancellation of travel and baggage insurance. But the loss of luggage in Europe is already covered by many household policies. According to the insurance expert, for example, they pay for theft from the hotel room or robbery. „One should only insure against risks that can ruin one“, so boss. „That should not be the case with luggage loss.“
Health insurance for abroad
Even if it is happily ignored that something unforeseen can happen in the most beautiful days of the year: Accidents and illnesses do not take any account of holidays. A heart attack or stroke can occur at any time. A health insurance for foreign countries is therefore probably the most important of all insurance. This should also be purchased separately from the trip to it. According to Boss, there are annual policies for families for around 20 to 30 euros, single travelers pay 10 to 15 euros. A look at comparison portals can be worthwhile here.
Observe restrictions for the chronically ill
„There are a few critical points that you should know“, says boss. For example, there are often restrictions on benefits for chronically ill patients and foreseeable treatments are excluded from the insurance cover. The speech is then from „unanticipated“, „unforeseeable“ or „acute“ Diseases. The providers, in which this is in the contract, are not suitable for the chronically ill. The expert explained that policies are recommendable that not only pay for the return from the holiday destination if it is medically necessary, but also if it makes medical sense. Specifically, this means that even people who do not travel life-threatening while traveling would prefer to recover in the circle of relatives in Germany rather than in a clinic in Egypt, Thailand or Mexico.
