Recalls due to possible salmonella poisoning by contaminated cheese
First cases of salmonella poisoning confirmed
Currently, the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety and the French Ministry of Agriculture warn against a French cheese, which was distributed throughout Germany. There is an urgent suspicion of harmful Salmonella bacteria. It is the soft cheese "Reblochon de Savoie" of the French manufacturer Fromagerie La Tournette.
As a precautionary measure of consumer protection, the Fromagerie La Tournette dairy recalls the raw milk cheese "Reblochon de Savoie". It can not be ruled out that the product is contaminated with Salmonella. Affected are all 450 gram packs with the best before dates 25 November 2018 and 01 December 2018 with the batch number FR 74-128-050 EC. Consumption is strongly discouraged.

According to the consumer protection portal "lebensmittelwarnung.de" of the Federal Office for Consumer Protection, the cheese was traded in all federal states except in Brandenburg and the Saarland. The manufacturer has already had the products taken out of the sale. A part has already been sold. Therefore, the manufacturer asks the buyers to inspect the goods and destroy them if necessary or have them reimbursed at the place of purchase.
The first poisonings have already surfaced in France
The product was also distributed in France. The French Ministry of Agriculture has already confirmed the first salmonella intoxications in people who had recently eaten the cheese.
What are the dangers of salmonella in food??
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), a salmonellosis, ie an infection with salmonella, usually shows twelve to 36 hours after the consumption of the contaminated product. This causes an inflammation of the intestine associated with abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, nausea and vomiting. In severe cases it can also lead to high fever. Furthermore, there is a risk of dehydration, especially in infants and older adults.
Salmonella can be a mortal danger to these people
In particular, in people over the age of 60 years and in immunocompromised persons complications may occur, which can sometimes represent a mortal danger. According to the RKI, the bacteria can spread to other organs causing abscesses, septic arthritis, inflammation of the gallbladder, heart lining, brain lining, heart bag, lung, skin, or renal pelvis. Around 0.1 percent of all those affected die from the infection, reports the RKI. Anyone who has consumed the cheese and then detects one or more symptoms, should consult a doctor immediately and point out a possible salmonella infection. (Vb)
