Recall for broken glass in mineral water and sweet drinks
All foodstuffs of the company Steigerwald Mineralbrunnen are recalled by the company for reasons of precautionary consumer protection, after a piece of glass shards and glass fragments were discovered in the product "Steigerwald Naturell" with the best before date November 30, 2018. The consequences for the family business are fatal.
After the company Steigerwald Mineralbrunnen GmbH had already started at the end of February a recall for various mineral water and sweet drinks with best before date 10 January 2019 to 23 February 2019, this was now extended to all food of the company. The evidence of broken glass in a product triggered the recall, which, according to the Bavarian Radio (BR) could mean the end of the family business.

Uncertain future of the company
The future of the family business is uncertain in view of the comprehensive recall, reports the Bavarian Radio. It is unclear whether the company will continue to run, as a spokesman for the company told the BR. In any case, the 73-year-old company owner has so far found no successor. About 60,000 beverage crates are affected by the current recall and since the first recall campaign in February, the company has ceased production at the company's premises in Oberscheinfeld.
This may end the successful history of the company, which began in 1978 with the drilling of the first source of the Steigerwald Mineral Fountain. At that time, a water was actually sought for beer brewing in the family-owned brewery, but it turned out that the water had an above-average quality with suitability for mineral water. "The mineral water was very popular and the production was very difficult due to the demand," says the company. Therefore, a warehouse / production hall was built in 1987 and a complete bottling plant was installed. There followed some additional extensions. At present, Steigerwald Mineralbrunnen employs a further 15 people in production, loading, transport and in the office. Sales are mainly in the regional area of Würzburg, Nuremberg, Bamberg. (Fp)
