Recallatory winery calls wine back
Recall: Kellerei an der Mosel recalls about two million bottles of wine
24/12/2013
Already in the middle of the month had the winery „Winery Zimmermann-Graeff & Müller (ZGM) recalled about 86,000 wine bottles. Due to a technical defect in a bottling plant, a filter that freed the wine of turbid matter and remaining yeast cells did not work properly.
The purpose of filtering is to prevent so-called post-fermentation. Since the device is unlikely to filter out all the nutrients, there is a risk that bottles could explode if the pressure increases too much. Even after extensive technical analysis, the cause of the malfunction could not be clarified.
As a precaution, all bottles will be recalled in the affected period to prevent possible damage. These include, among others, wines from the Palatinate and from Rheinhessen from the batches 2011 to 2013. On the website, consumers have the opportunity to obtain more detailed information. The purchase price is refunded even without presentation of the receipt of the supermarket chains again, if the wine was purchased there. Consumer advocates warn: "The recall should be taken seriously." If a bottle bursts, health damage can result. " (Fr)
