Listeria are bacteria that are present everywhere in our environment and can occur in all raw foods. Contaminations are therefore not uncommon. Just a few weeks ago, for example, a recall for Gorgonzola cheese was started because of Listeria. Such bacteria may trigger listeriosis. The course of the disease is similar to that of influenza. Patients suffer first from diarrhea and severe abdominal pain and later often from fever, severe headache and body aches. The disease is usually treated with antibiotics. (Ad)
