Recalling threatening salmonella infections due to eggs from Aldi, Netto, Lidl, REWE and Kaufland

Many different egg products are being recalled
The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety and the company Eifrisch Marketing GmbH & Co.KG are currently warning of a possible salmonella poisoning, which consumers could incur by eating various eggs from the supermarkets Netto, Lidl, Aldi, REWE and Kaufland. Salmonella was detected in a large egg producer during official investigations.
For reasons of preventive consumer protection, the company Eifrisch Vermarktung GmbH & Co.KG recalls its eggs, which have been distributed in many different markets. This applies to all barn eggs with the best before dates between 19 December 2018 to and including 24 December 2018 and the print number 2-DE0351691.

Which eggs from which market are exactly affected?
The following list shows concretely which brands from which supermarket according to the manufacturer are affected:
- Netto Marken Discount: "From the country 10 fresh eggs L-M from Bodenhaltung" - distributed in the federal states of Bremen and Lower Saxony.
- Lidl: "Fresh 10er L-M eggs from ground husbandry" - distributed in the states of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.
- Aldi north: "Hofland 6er XL eggs from ground husbandry" - distributed in the regional companies Horst and Großbeeren.
- REWE: "REWE Best Choice 6er XL Eggs from Bodenhaltung" - distributed in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg.
- Kaufland: "My favorite egg 6er XL from Bodenhaltung" - distributed in Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
The consumption is strongly discouraged
According to the manufacturer, the affected products have already been taken out of the sale. Anyone who has already bought the above items should not consume them. Instead, the eggs can be returned to the supermarket where they were purchased. The purchase price will be refunded.
How dangerous are salmonella?
According to the Federal Center for Health Education (BzgA), Salmonella infection manifests itself within a few days after consumption. This can cause discomfort such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and mild fever. Typically, the symptoms persist for several days and then resolve. Infants, infants, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals, however, may develop severe and protracted disease patterns. The continued loss of body fluid and salts then threaten circulatory collapse or kidney failure, which in rare cases can even lead to death.
Should go to the doctor if you have eaten the eggs?
The Federal Office of Consumer Protection (BVL) advises persons who have eaten the eggs and show severe or persistent complaints to seek medical help. The doctor should be advised of possible salmonella poisoning. However, if you do not develop symptoms after eating, you do not need to go to the doctor. A preventive medical examination is not useful, according to BVL. (Vb)
