Back pain threatens Do not sit too long with your legs crossed over
Long sitting is not healthy. Whoever occupies the same sitting position for a long time, in this way favors an uneven load on the spine. This can lead to back pain. To avoid discomfort, avoid sitting too long with your legs bent over.
Sitting for at least half an hour with your legs crossed
Various scientific studies showed that sitting a long time makes you ill. For example, neck pain, fat legs or shoulder stabbing can occur if you spend the whole day at your desk. And of course also back pain. With bumped legs you should sit for a maximum of half an hour, said the orthopedist Reinhard Schneiderhan in a message from the news agency dpa. Otherwise, there will be a counter motion to the tilted pelvis in the back and the vertebral joints and intervertebral discs will be loaded on one side.
Often change the seating position
Those who sit shorter and change their legs do something good for their backs. "When sitting, it's all about changing the position frequently," said Schneiderhan, who is also president of the German Spine League. Shoulder and neck are relieved by placing the forearms halfway up. However, the recommendation, as straight as possible, to sit straight with the buttocks on the backrest and the gaze, just theory. "Nobody can hold this out for long, and in the long run, you will also be tense," explained Schneiderhan. "The best sitting is still non-sitting. That's just not practical. "
Make a lot of movement
Among other things, it has been recommended by other health experts in the past to compensate for the long periods of office work by many movements. Ideally, you should walk at least 10,000 steps every day. The workload can be checked, for example, with the help of a free app on the smartphone. The lunch break is best used for a short walk. And after work is balancing sport advisable. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that adults exercise at least 150 minutes a week, or spend 75 minutes exercising intensively. (Ad)
