Celebrity donates for coma patients
Prominent Reinhard Mey donates for coma patients.
(21.09.2010) Yesterday the special medical flight from Thailand landed: 39-year-old comatatist Matthias K. is back in his native Germany. Now the patient is being cared for in a special clinic for coma patients. The songwriter and Reinhard Mey donated 15,000 euros for the treatment costs alone. Another 15,000 euros came through private donations and commitments from authorities.
Eleven long months forgotten in a clinic in Thailand.
Eleven months was a German coma patient in a Thai clinic. The relatives could not pay the cost of the treatment and the expensive treatment. Because the coma patient had no foreign health insurance. Numerous donations and actions of the authorities made it still possible to bring the 39-year-old back home. The best known donor is Reinhard Mey. His son lies even in the vegetative state. The singer wants the money over a charity concert in Bamberg get together. So Mey said to the „image“: „All income from my concert in Bamberg on November 1st should be used. Since Mr. K. immediately needs the help, I will provide the sum immediately.“
Return was until the end a "thriller".
Everything was still very uncertain until the end. After long negotiations, the Federal Foreign Office had agreed on Friday to take over the flight costs in the amount of 25,000 euros. In itself, the cost of such a medically accompanied special flight is much higher. But the „Flight Ambulance International (FAI)“ offered to take the coma patient on a return flight from Australia. As a result, only the costs for the stopover in Thailand had to be taken over.
On the spot, however, a renewed problem appeared. Due to ambiguity and misunderstandings, the Thai hospital did not want to release the patient. A down payment of the high treatment costs of 50,000 euros had not been received at the clinic. A lightning transfer from a company made it possible at the last moment that Matthias K. could be taken along. Now he is treated and looked after in a clinic near Nuremberg.
Coma after falling from a staircase.
After a fall in the Hat Yai airport, the man had fallen into a coma in October 2009. The reason was a serious head injury. Since then, the man spent eleven long months in the clinic. The city of Bamberg started a donation campaign for the patient so that he could be brought back home. Because the relatives and relatives could not pay the high treatment costs. According to doctors, the man is already on the way to recovery. He reacts physically to touch and address. It was „not a hopeless case“ as reported. (Sb)
