65-year-old man threatens with knife
In the night of Sunday, a 65-year-old patient in a hospital in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate threatened the clinic staff with a knife, reports the news agency dpa. According to the police headquarters Oberpfalz said that employees had called the police. With a baton and pepper spray, the officials would have overwhelmed the patient after he had responded to instructions. The 65-year-old suffered minor injuries to the arm and head. Both the police and the clinic staff are unscathed. The patient was in one „exceptional mental situation“ found. He was taken to a specialist clinic.
More and more attacks by violent patients
It has recently been reported that there are increasing numbers of attacks by violent patients in hospitals. But by no means all of the perpetrators are mentally ill or drunk. Among other things, the long waiting times in the emergency rooms often lead to violent outbreaks. From insults and threats, sexual assaults, spitting and scratching to throwing glasses, infusion bottles and furniture is just about everything, said victims. In a survey conducted at the Nuremberg Clinic last year, over 70 percent of respondents said they have been victims of verbal or physical violence. (Ad)
