Sugar, fat and co: That's what Nutella looks like
Nutella is probably the best-known nut nougat cream worldwide. The popular breakfast spread gets due to the high sugar and fat content again and again in the criticism. At present, a picture circulates on the Internet showing how Nutella looks unaffected. Clearly recognizable: The cream certainly does not contribute to a healthy breakfast.

The most famous chocolate spread in the world
In the past, Nutella was promoted, among other things, with the slogan "naturally healthy", but according to experts, there could be no question of it. The world's most well-known nut nougat cream has already been described several times as hazardous to health because of its high content of sugar and fat. How much of each ingredient in the popular breakfast spread, can be seen in a picture that is currently on the Internet makes the rounds.

Ingredients of Nutella
"What's in Nutella? What about the proportion of hazelnuts, sugar, cocoa, palm oil and "the best of the milk" in the overall ratio of the spread? ", Writes the consumer center Hamburg on their website, where you can order a poster on which this relationship is clear.

Also, in a picture that is shown on "Reddit" and makes the round on Twitter, you can see how the spread looks unmoved in its individual components.

Unsuitable for the daily diet
The manufacturer, the company Ferrero, indicates on the glass of the product all the ingredients used, but not their ratio. Only with hazelnuts (13 per cent) and skimmed milk powder (7.5 per cent) is the quantity per glass to be found.

In addition to these ingredients, the sweet spread contains little cocoa, very large amounts of sugar, and controversial palm oil, which, with almost 50 percent of saturated fat, is considered unsuitable for daily nutrition.

According to scientific investigations, the latter ingredient can be carcinogenic. The European Food Safety Authority also classifies palm oil as a potential carcinogen.

Sugar and fat are the main ingredients
The term "nut nougat cream" is therefore rather misleading, since the main ingredients are sugar and fat.

This is also reflected in the high calorie content. A jar contains 4520 kcal, as reported on the Instagram account "caloriebrands".

The unhealthy ingredients were also in the past cause for criticism. France's Environment Minister Ségolène Royal even called for a boycott of Nutella. "You have to stop eating Nutella," said the politician.

Commercials with national football team after criticism set
In Germany, the product was and is advertised among other things with athletes. Spots with members of the German national football team were discontinued in 2012 on the recommendation of the consumer organization Foodwatch.

The German Diabetes Association (DDG) criticized last summer but "irresponsible sponsorship" of the German Football Association (DFB).

"With the help of the football idols, it is suggested that Coca-Cola, Nutella and McDonald's promote fitness and provide peak performance - not only a false but also a harmful message," states a press release.

It should be noted, however, that Nutella is not the only nut nougat cream consisting mainly of fat and sugar. For products from other manufacturers it usually does not look better. The alternative: simply make the breakfast spread yourself. (Ad)
