Crohn's disease - New treatment option for chronic intestinal inflammation

Crohn's disease - New treatment option for chronic intestinal inflammation / Health News
New therapy developed for Crohn's disease
Crohn's disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, is often discovered late and increases the risk of developing colon cancer. Now, two new therapies promise success in treatment. This was a conclusion of the "German Society of Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (DGV)" on the day of action "Chronic inflammatory bowel disease" on 19 May.

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammation of the intestine.

Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease have been considered almost incurable, although TCM in Crohn's disease has some patients as well as a new drug in the fight against Crohn's disease.

New therapies
On the one hand, the active ingredient Usteknuman is said to be effective in preventing Crohn's disease, namely stopping an episode of infection and prolonging the period without inflammation. First, Crohn's disease is characterized by regular diarrhea. These are slimy, but usually without blood. Second, in abdominal pain, abdominal pain occurs in the right lower abdomen.

A second new approach relies on SMAD7 antisense oligonucleotide, which is designed to control the infection of the last part of the small intestine.

Crohn's disease
Crohn's disease affects all layers of the intestinal wall - but not all sections of the intestine are equally inflamed. The exact cause is still unknown, but those affected show a lack of endogenous antibiotics; Therefore, many researchers suspect a defective immune response on a genetic basis, which may be activated by an infection.

The antibiotics are missing, and therefore the intestinal mucosa can not defend harmful bacteria sufficiently. These bacteria then trigger the inflammation.

Crohn's disease primarily attacks the last part of the colon, but also affects every other part of the intestine, from the mouth to the anus. Everywhere there are inflammations - when they heal, they leave scars that can narrow the intestine.

In the severe course of the disease, nutrients are only insufficiently processed by the intestine. Then weight loss and blood loss is the result. The risk of developing colon cancer is increasing.

Previous treatment
Mesalazine can be used as a zap or rectal foam if only the rectum and lower colon are affected. Cortisone preparations in the form of an enema or, in turn, as a foam help with a severe push. For extremely severe episodes, immunosuppressants are used. These suppress the immune functions and thus inhibit the inflammation.

Azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine and infliximab help against Crohn's disease. Live strains of Eschericchia coli stabilize the intestinal flora. Aziathiopirin also helps to prolong the symptom-free periods after a severe episode. Ciprofloxacin helps to heal fistulas and abscesses in Crohn's disease. Against diarrhea loperamide or colestyramine prove successful.

bowel surgery
bowel surgery
Often the drugs do not help anymore, especially if bleeding occurs, the bowels narrow, the fistulas spread, or pus accumulates in larger quantities. Then you have to undergo surgery.

Doctors now remove the most affected sections of the intestine.
In Crohn's disease doctors avoid surgery for as long as possible because the shortened bowel causes additional discomfort. Often the intestinal sutures do not heal or new fistulas and abscesses develop.

Normal intestinal complaints
Crohn's disease is a serious and chronic disease that severely restricts the enjoyment of life. Attention to symptoms is appropriate when alternative explanations for bowel problems are lacking. If you have problems with the intestine, you should ask:

1) Did I overexert my bowels in the last few days? For example, did I drink a lot of coffee, eat large amounts of sugar or sugar substitutes, for example in the form of energy drinks, gummy bears, chocolate? Did I drink a lot of alcohol and / or smoked a lot of cigarettes? I have consumed a lot of animal fats - belly meat when grilling, roast goose or knuckle of pork?

2) Have I not fed enough fiber to my intestines, so no fruits and vegetables, no legumes like beans or chickpeas eaten, or no linseeds, pumpkin seeds, etc.?

3) Did the diarrhea begin after a meal? There may be an intolerance or food poisoning?

4) Am I just coming back from a trip? Is it possibly a travel diarrhea? This lasts for two to five days, coli bacteria or viruses are the cause.

If I can answer no to all these questions, it may be Crohn's disease. At the latest, if there is blood in the diarrhea, violent abdominal pain to come and those affected fever, they should go to the doctor on the same day.

What can affected people do??
Anyone who suffers from an acute episode should protect themselves physically and stay in bed, so behave as a flu infection.

During a slight push, the body can be relieved by the use of liquid food without fiber - however, a heavy boost requires infusions. In Crohn's disease, abstaining from smoking reduces the risk of a new push.

During easier relapses and in periods free of symptoms, remedies for diarrhea and abdominal cramps are recommended: bloodroot, peppermint or celandine. When changing diarrhea and constipation Indian psyllium seeds are appropriate. (Dr.Utz Anhalt)
