Men start much less often than women a weight loss attempt

04/22/2013

Men are diet mustaches. A recent survey commissioned by the „pharmacy magazine“, conducted by GfK Marktforschung Nürnberg, has shown that men are much less likely to start a weight loss attempt than women. Only about one in ten men has dieted for the past five years.

In total, under the current survey „1,976 persons over the age of 14, including 403 individuals who have undergone at least one attempt at weight loss or diet in the past five years,“ interviewed in personal interviews, the statement said „pharmacy magazine“. The weaners were female by a large majority. Thus, 287 women had a weight loss test and only 116 men. However, it is not clear from the communication on the current survey why women start a diet significantly more frequently. They may actually suffer a correspondingly higher proportion of weight problems. But it could also be that men simply attribute less importance to their own health and body. Other factors may also play a role here.

Development of Abnehmenbereitschaft remains open
The realization that women are more likely to diet than men is unsurprising. This was probably true more than 50 years ago, even though statistical evidence has been limited. The survey of „pharmacy magazine“ shows that just under three out of ten women have dieted in the last five years, while only twelve percent of men have. An interesting question would be how the dietary preparedness of men has developed in recent decades. For example, in the 1950s, only a few fat men faced the question of dieting. The body was also an expression of prosperity.

Women change diets more often
However, most people are well aware of the health risks of overweight, such as cardiovascular problems (high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, heart attack) or the increased risk of diabetes. Accordingly, it can be assumed that the willingness to diets altogether increases. Even today, significantly more people have weight problems than they did 50 years ago, which is why more weight loss is expected. The survey of „pharmacy magazine“ however, does not allow any statement about the development of the readiness to lose weight. It shows, however, that women not only more frequently diet, but also change the weight loss method more often. Various weight loss varieties are tested here, while men who opt for a diet, remain for the most part in a method. (Fp)
