Travel project As Friends to Kenya combines help and holidays
Experience Africa: A sustainable encounter journey
Immerse yourself in everyday life in Kenya and take something new for your own life, promises the co-travel project "As Friends to Kenya". At the same time, the revenue generated on the ground should help. The association Lebendige Kommunikation e.V. (LebKom) reports in a recent communication on the recent experiences of a tour group on site and promotes participation.
The group lives with Lencer, the hostess and her family near Lake Victoria. For 16 days, the travelers have left their own everyday life and are immersed in the life of Kenyan people. "The me, a stranger, brought joy and warmth move me a lot," says a participant from her experiences.

"Living with people in their different culture, as we do in the co-travel project, also means learning about new ways of development cooperation that help our friends improve their lives," says LebKom. Lencer also led her new friends to the health station, which was built by her local women's group together with LebKom. "In front of the building are about 20 chairs. All are busy. Women, men and children are hoping for medical care from the trained specialist staff and they receive it, "the travelers report on their experiences. The hostess explained that before there was this ward, some medical help came too late because the nearest hospital was too far away. Her dream was to change that and to provide medical help for the people in her region.
Further projects planned
Thanks to the co-travel project, the dream could be realized, as the Kenyan women from the joint project made an income, with whom and the continuous support of a social worker from LebKom, they have set up the health station. "Today, it is a blessing especially for all women in the region, as they also find support here in matters of family planning, pregnancy and childbirth," according to the association's statement. Currently, the "Healthy Water" project is being implemented on the same basis, with which rainwater tanks are soon to provide women and their families with clean water.
Support, but not patronize
"It was a real experience to experience so close up what can change when you get together, followed ideas consistently and has friends who advise and support, but not patronize," says a fellow travelers from their impressions. Thankfully, she looks back at the past few weeks. The Kenyans and their families have from the beginning met her with openness, warmth and trust, and have also enabled her to open up to them. "Dipping into her life makes me see mine from a new perspective. I'll be back ", so the conclusion of the woman.
