Blood donation unit of the DRK
The German Red Cross (DRK) asks the citizens of the twin city Mörfelden-Walldorf for support with a blood donation. On Wednesday, 18 September, the blood donation service of the German Red Cross will be stationed from 17 to 20.30 in the Walldorf Stadthalle, Waldstraße 100. Embedded is the appointment in the so-called Bluspendestaffel, in which 210 blood donation actions in 184 days the relay wood across the two states of Baden-Wuerttemberg and Hesse is worn.

150th anniversary of the Red Cross
The blood donation will be part of the double anniversary 150 years Red Cross and 60 years DRC blood donation service in Hesse under the motto „To save lives together“ organized. The campaign has been running since July 1st. In the two federal states, 3,000 blood donations are required daily to provide all patients in the clinics with sufficient blood. „This is only possible with the combined efforts“, so Stefanie Fritzsche of the DRC blood donation service. „The blood donation is the largest citizen initiative. We want to show with the action how many people take on social responsibility and at the same time motivate them to donate for the first time.“

Care around the clock, 365 days a year
The International Red Cross was founded in February 1863 in Geneva. The blood donation is one of the statutory tasks. The first blood donation service of the DRK in Germany was founded in 1951 in North Rhine-Westphalia, meanwhile, six regionally active DRC blood transfusion services are responsible for the nationwide, comprehensive care of patients throughout the country 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Save an hour to life
In Germany, every healthy person can donate blood between 18 and 71 years of age, whereby first-time donors must not be older than 64 years old. Before a blood donation, a survey and an examination take place. Even if the actual removal takes only a few minutes, the donor should plan a good hour with registration, examination and subsequent snack. An hour that can save lives. (Ad)
