Milestone For the first time, more water than unhealthy coke was drunk
A milestone has been reached. For the first time in 2016, Americans drank more water than sweet soft drinks like cola. This has been shown by an evaluation by the market research company "Beverage Marketing Corporation".
Only a few decades ago in the US it was unthinkable for citizens to spend money on bottled water, which flows out of the tap at home for free. Now consumption is rising steadily. In 2016, Americans consumed an average of 149 liters of water, while soft drinks consumption was 146 liters. For comparison: ten years ago there were over 190 liters of sweet lemonade and 104 liters of water. Presumably, awareness of the harmful effects of soft drinks, which are either high in calories or artificial sweeteners, has increased in recent years. In addition, in some regions, the quality of drinking water leaves something to be desired.

Last year, every citizen drank on average almost 149 liters of mineral and medicinal water, reports the Association of German Mineral Fountain. There were also 3.9 liters of spring and table water. Consumption of soft drinks declined slightly and was 116 liters per capita in 2016 according to provisional calculations by the Confederation of Non-Alcoholic Beverages. Heike Kreutz, bzfe
