Dentist removes 202 teeth from the mouth of a seven-year-old

Because a girl complained of a toothache and swollen gums, her mother, a businesswoman from Gurgaon, India, went with her daughter to the dentist. The diagnosis was shocking: In the mouth of the girl found the physicians 202 teeth, so-called Zahnkeime (Odontome). This is reported by the Mirror.

Already in July there had been a similar case in which a seventeen-year-old 232 teeth were removed, to this day record. The question of the cause of such anomaly was answered by the attending physician Dr. med. Dhivare-Palwankar then compared to the Times of India so: „It is a developmental anomaly that has affected the molar tooth in its developmental phase, or rather when it was still a child. The medical term for this condition is complex composite odontoma. In other words, it could also be called a benign tumor.“

In the present case, it was only 202 teeth. The attending physician, Doctor Ajoy Roychudhary, head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, was shocked: „Usually we discover some abnormal teeth. Finding 202 in the mouth of a seven-year-old girl was a shock.“

He told the news portal Daily Offbeat: „Although the procedure is relatively simple, you have to be very precise. Injuries to the adjacent tissue or jaw only heal very slowly.“ Previously, he had successfully removed the girl's teeth in a two-hour surgery, so the girl could lead a normal life in the future.
